After all, you only get one shot at your Wedding Day. When brides talk to me about stresses around hiring a Wedding DJ, a few common concerns come up. I’ve heard brides express worry around being embarrassed by the DJ, the DJ playing the wrong songs at the wrong times, or worst case, the DJ not showing up at all. While these are all obvious ways that a DJ can make a mess of your big day, there are still a few less commonly considered ways that a DJ can make your Wedding Day memorable for all of the wrong reasons. As with all event planning, I believe that screening vendors is one of the best ways to ensure your event goes as smoothly as possible. So with each mistake, I’ll recommend a question to ask in the interview process to help make sure you avoid a messy ending.
The DJ should say something along the lines of meeting with you before hand to get details about the order and names for the grand entrance. I work with my brides to determine the names and how they’re pronounced, the order in which their entering, and what music they’ll be entering to in our programming meeting. I also have an onsite helper to make sure the wedding party is coordinated and lined up in the correct agreed upon order. If the DJ you’re interviewing does’t say something like that, beware! 2. There’s No I in Team. The DJ Doesn’t coordinate with the vendors before moving through the timeline causing your photographer to miss key shots, or other things to run less than smoothly. Interview Question: Do you have experience doing Weddings? What role do you play in coordinating with vendors on the day of the Wedding? The DJ you’re interviewing should not be doing their first wedding ever. If they are, they won’t have the experience to know about these smaller details like the need to work as a team with the other vendors to make sure things go smoothly. Either myself or my assistant are in constant communication with the catering staff and photographer to make sure things are moving smoothly. We are also prepared to all work together to make any on-the-fly changes if need be. I also make sure to communicate with the photographer before moving into any important events on the timeline to make sure they’re in place for pictures. If the DJ you’re speaking with doesn’t talk about working together with the vendors, consider hiring a different Wedding DJ. 3. No Control of Event Flow. This is when a DJ doesn’t have control over the movement of the timeline causing the wedding to either drag, or time to run out before all important events have occurred (Bouquet Toss, Cake Cutting, Grand Exit, etc).*Note – a photographer who isn’t a team player or has poor time management can cause this to happen as well. Interview Question: How do you keep the Wedding Flowing when timeline issues arise? Let’s be real. Timelines in Weddings pretty much never go exactly as scheduled. The important thing is to work with a DJ who understands that it is their job to be in control of the timeline. If dinner is running late, or the champagne isn’t ready for the toast yet, or the reception hall isn’t ready to be seated yet, how does the DJ handle this? For me, I work with the other vendors and the couple to communicate the issues and determine what we can adjust. A Wedding DJ who’s a good fit is going to have a plan which involves taking charge and communicating for when things don’t go as planned. 4. Failure to Prepare for Equipment Failure. As with anything, sometimes unforeseen things happen. This can include day-of equipment failure. How awful to have the DJ on site and in place but their speakers or laptop or setup fail and they now cannot play. And you’re left with no music which is just as bad as having no DJ at all. Interview Question: Have you got a backup plan in case of equipment failure? A responsible professional vendor will have a backup plan. Don’t roll the dice on your Wedding Day. Choose a vendor who is prepared for any and all scenarios. 5. DJ Wildcard. This is when your scheduled DJ pulls a day-before or day-of DJ switch. (I’m sorry something has come up and I can’t make it but I’ll be sending out DJ _____ to cover me. Don’t worry. He’s great! ) I’ve actually been the DJ that’s been sent out last minute when someone suddenly didn’t have availability to do their contracted wedding anymore. The stress that you’re left with in not knowing who this person is or if they’ll show up and do a good job is an extra level of stress you DONT NEED. Especially when paying premium rates for a Wedding DJ. Interview Question: Make SURE the person you’re hiring is the person who will be showing up. Lots of companies book DJs for Weddings with several DJs on their rosters. There’s nothing wrong with this, but it will set your mind at ease to know who’s showing up ahead of time. When I book a DJ under my company that’s not me, the client is aware that a DJ other than me will be working their event. I also list in the contract the name of the DJ that’s handling the event and allow the DJ and the client to interact from the beginning so they’re comfortable working together. Be leery of a DJ or agency who won’t confirm who will be showing up on the day of your Wedding at the time of the contract signing. Do your homework in the screening process, and you’ll find you’ll be much more likely to have a smooth and successful event. Don’t be afraid to ask a DJ more than if they’re available and how much they cost. Djing a Wedding successfully is part DJ skill, part personality, and part ability to manage an event. It’s the interviewing that will separate the amateurs from the true professionals. Don’t be afraid to ask questions to ensure the right fit. As a semi-caveat to this, note that this was far from 'double-blind': all evaluators signed their work, and the paper came from prominent authors and was known to have been accepted by AER P&P, albeit not a peer-reviewed journal.

Where I'm at with AI risk: convinced of danger but not (yet) of doom

A lot of my friends and writing clients are extremely worried about existential risks from AI. Many believe that humanity is more likely than not to go extinct due to AI within my lifetime.
I realised that I was confused about this, so I set myself the goal of understanding the case for AI doom, and my own scepticisms, better. I did this by (very limited!) reading, writing down my thoughts, and talking to friends and strangers (some of whom I recruited from the Bountied Rationality Facebook group - if any of you are reading, thanks again!) Tl;dr: I think there are good reasons to worry about extremely powerful AI, but I don’t yet understand why people think superintelligent AI is highly likely to end up killing everyone by default.

This is not in any way an endorsement of options trading, or even all that helpful if you are already planning to start optionsing. It's just an example to illustrate the market forces we will (hopefully) be seeing at work soon.
Disclaimer: I am not a financial expert, and no part of this post should be construed as financial advice. Almost everything I know about it I learned here, so there's a chance of ignorance cross contamination. Don't start buying calls because of this post, it doesn't contain nearly enough info to prepare you for options trading. It's just intended to illustrate what could possibly start happening tomorrow.
So, say you have $TONK, and $TONK has 5 available options strikes: $5, $10, $15, $20, and $25. All 5 strikes have the same Open Interest (number of those contracts existing) for this Friday, 10,000 each. Enough contracts for 1 million shares at each strike. And right now (Monday) $TONK is trading at $16, and no catalysts to move the price are expected. Calls are hedged for by buying shares, and puts are hedged by shortselling shares. For this example, assume the options writer only sells calls. The hedging on those calls will look something like this:
$5: 100% $10: 75% $15: 60% $20: 40% $25: 25%
So, why not 100% even on calls that are well ITM? Because the hedging on the OTM calls balances out the total to 100% of the ITM calls, as long as the price stays the same (hedging will be adjusted if the options writer is expecting the price to move). If $TONK trades sideways, by Thursday the hedging will look more like this:
$5: 100% $10: 85% $15: 75% $20: 25% $25: 15%
Which means the options writer hasn't actually had to buy any more shares. It's more likely that the $10 and $15 calls will still be ITM on Friday, but less likely that the $20 and $25 calls will go ITM, so the hedge stays balanced.
So what if the price does move unexpectedly? Well, if it moves down Friday morning, say to $13, the options writer will actually be over-hedged. They have enough shares to fulfill all the ITM calls, plus a full million shares extra that were hedged for the $15 and up strikes. They can now safely sell those extra shares, which is part of the reason a red week tends to be even more red on Friday - the hedges are being unwound to match the new $TONK price.
(Note: During market hours, hedging is done semi-automatically in real time. A price move on Monday will usually require less adjustment than on a Friday, because there is more time to buy shares without driving the price even highelower. Hedging isn't saved for Friday afternoon and then done all at once. When someone talks about calls ITM and T+2, it's probably being assumed that the person writing those calls had not been hedging properly, and is now on the hook for buying shares to cover all those ITM calls. Unhedged calls are called "Naked Calls," which are usually not as fun as they sound).
But what if the price rises substantially Friday morning? Unexpected good news on a patent application by TONK Corp... $TONK has quickly climbed to $22! Suddenly the hedge on those calls needs to look more like this:
$5: 100% $10: 100% $15: 100% $20: 75% $25: 25%
That means the options writer needs to have 4 million shares to cover the calls now ITM, but only has 3 million. They need to buy a million more shares on the open market, and they really want to do it TODAY, so they don't get another surprise price rise over the weekend.
Even being as careful as they can manage, buying those million shares raises the price even more. The climb reignites that morning's enthusiasm, and even more people buy in. $TONK is now $28, and all 50,000 calls are ITM. Now the options writer needs to buy ANOTHER million shares to cover the $25 strike calls. They have T+2 to do this, so either they buy them quickly on Friday and raise the price even higher, or they risk something else happening over the weekend and making those million shares even more expensive when they slowly buy them on Monday and Tuesday of next week. Either way, $TONK is probably headed well over $30.
Now imagine the options writer had also sold calls with a $30 strike, and a $35 strike. And $40. And also calls for all those strikes next week, and the week after, and oh shit 3 weeks from now is Quad Witching and the OI is 25,0000 on each strike. Also the options writer had only hedged for this week and the next, and now needs 2 million shares by Tuesday, and at least another 3 million by next Friday. And 6+ million for the week after that. And all this share buying keeps the price climbing, so by Quad Witching $TONK is trading at $42, and the options writer needs to buy 20 million shares somehow...

I've seen a few people talking or asking about call hedging and gamma ramps, so I'm going to give a simplified example that should help illustrate how it works.So, say you have $TONK, and $TONK has 5 available options strikes: $5, $10, $15, $20, and $25. This is a bit of head canon but hear me out.
Angus and the Hammer of Glory had a symbiotic relationship. The hammer not only drew power from the sun, but also channeled that power into Angus.

Another big clue that they had a symbiotic relationship is another key line from the song Gloryhammer:
"My hammer will not surrender It fights until I'm to die Now time has come To regain its powerful might, once more Celestial light of new dimension Fill my maul with glory For all that is real, yeah!"
This implies that the Hammer not only draws its power from the sun, but also channels it into Angus. There are a few lines from Master of the Universe and Sixcalibur that support this theory but I'll get into those later.
My theory is that the Hammer of Glory knew that Angus was going to try to end his life by flying into Schiehallion and used the last of its power to revive him after he died, but in a hellish wasteland. (Glory left my hammer - Master of the Universe). I think people are getting overhyped by code generating AIs.
The AIs at the current state are actually quite stupid, they don't have any real intelligence, it's basically just pattern matching and merging.
And I think it won't go any further. Because if they would gain more "intelligence", if they would be able to make real logic connections, understand causality and such stuff, then they would get too dangerous to hand them to the public.
Not because they would get sentient and erradicate all human life, but because they could get trained to do significant harm to some company or country. It's essentially a cyberweapon then.
And because of this limit, because AIs have to stay harmless, there won't be any AI that converts a game design document into a full game anytime soon, in my opinion.

It was also revealed that he forced himself on an Australian national, B (30), five times at the same training center from July 2018 for five months.
The prosecution believes that Jung used brainwashing and rendered his followers helpless, calling himself "messiah", and then committed the crimes.
Previously, Jung was sentenced to ten years in prison for sexually assaulting a female follower, and was released in February 2018.
From December last year to January of this year, three additional female followers of Korean nationality filed a complaint with the Chungnam Provincial Police Agency.

My videos on youtube just never get any views. I know the reason why. It's because I never show my face. I'm afraid of going viral and getting canceled, doxed, recognized, hated on eventually, etc. I feel like if parallel realities are real, there is either a really well liked celebrity version of me or a very hated version of me. I showed my face like one time and I got scared and deleted the video shortly after. I cleared over a thousand views easily in a short amount of time and got many likes... My videos without my face showing rarely reach that. I was just talking about something mundane too but showing my face just made me connect with people and made people want to click. Oh well..

I should start by saying, I don’t hate how I look but I am pretty average looking and have never been hit on. My boyfriend gets hit on quite often and is generally attractive.
I have always struggled with the fact that my boyfriend wants intimate friendships with girls. I think it’s normal to want intimate friendships. He says he is more comfortable talking to women than men since he was raised by a woman and had no real male role models. He says it is hard to talk to his male friends about anything deep, but it’s much easier to do that with female friends. I let him know he can always talk to me but he says he sees me every day and there’s only so much we can talk about.
My biggest issue with these friendships is that they involve conversations that are no different than those that you’d have with someone you were trying to date or have sex with and they are different than conversations he’d have with male friends. He likes to ask deep questions like “what’s something you regret in life?” And just general get to know you kind of questions. In almost every friendship he has had with another woman, either she has had feelings for him and he had to cut it off because of his relationship with me or he crossed a line in some way that made me uncomfortable. Here are some examples:
He once asked a female friend to take a “sexual fetish quiz” so they could discuss their results and find out what the other was into. He claimed he was not at all interested in this girl and he just likes to talk about topics like sex.
He had a close friend who was very obviously into him and he called me crazy for over a year because I kept trying to tell him she liked him. Eventually after they stopped being friends because she was a psychopath, he admitted that after some reflection, he had come to the conclusion that I was probably right about her attraction to him. When he first met this girl he’d make comments that she was ugly. Later on it became “she’s not THAT hot” and eventually he told me that if he had been single and this girl hadn’t been dating his friend, then he probably would have slept with her.
Recently an old friend from college added him on snapchat. He told me that she asked him out back then but he made it clear that he wasn’t into her. He asked me if I was okay with them talking, and I said yes since she’s married now. After a couple days she started hitting on him and he blocked her. This left him really disappointed because he really enjoyed having a girl to talk to other than me.
He also has made a couple of friends who have body types that he’s into or fetishizes and then claims that he definitely doesn’t want them like that, but it’s hard to believe that you “just want a friend” when that friend happens to be a 40 year old recently divorced mom who only dates younger men.
I have caught him in several lies in the past, especially when we first got together, but never caught him cheating. Recently he has been more honest with me and more open especially about who he talks to. He is also in therapy and really working on himself and seems to really be making progress. I don’t want to deny him the opportunity to have intimate friendships, but how do I navigate this when it always goes so badly? After writing all of this out I know I must seem incredibly stupid for staying in this relationship. He is my best friend and he truly is doing better, but I guess I’m wondering if it’s even possible for a guy like him to have normal friendships with girls or if I should ever trust him to do so.
