I've had a pretty rough life so far. My dad was my only real friend, and he died of cancer 2 years ago. He wanted in home hospice, so I moved in with him and took care of him. He died 6 months after been diagnosed with lung cancer. It's awful watching something wither away and die. I was right next to him when he died. Listening to someone's last breaths, and having to check their pulse, and then calling hospice to tell them he's dead is something no one should ever have to do. It's so brutal to watch someone die at the age of 63 from such an awful disease. I miss him so much. Sometimes for a brief second, I'll forget he's dead and think 'oh man, dad would love this, I have to show him' when I find something funny or that he would have thought was cool.

I was having a hard time taking a shower, because I was basically laying in bed for days, because my depression was horrible. I finally got up and got the motivation to at least make something to eat, and the first thing my mom says is 'Jesus, you really need to shower, you stink'. I tried the other day to bring up the fact that I've been sober from alcohol for 14 months, which I felt proud of. The first thing my mom said when I brought it up is 'yeah, but you stay up all night on the internet like some crazy person'. I try to be kind to everyone. I don't ever argue with people, or insult people. I don't like being mean to people. It doesn't feel fair that everyone is always so mean to me.
I've always been an outcast. I'm overweight and balding. I'm painfully shy. I've always been an easy target for bullies. I got bullied in school, and I got bullied at home. Jesus, even people that haven't met me bully me online when I try to play multi-player video games. I don't fit in anywhere. Maybe I'm just too sensitive to exist.
I have really awful social anxiety. It's painful for me to even make eye contact or have to speak to someone in real life. I can't hold down jobs. I got hired by McDonalds at the age of 36, and I don't think I'm ready to work yet. I think I'm just not going to show up for my first shift.
I'm so tired of feeling miserable. I've been diagnosed with depression and GAD and c-PTSD. Meds don't help. Therapy doesn't help. I guess the problem is me. Maybe my brain is just too broken. Maybe I'm just too weak. Maybe I'm not meant to fit in. It's funny to me that everyone says I have potential, and I should keep trying. Where are those people when I need someone to talk to? I've tried telling people that I think I need help, and I'm really hurting here, and people seem to just ignore it and continue telling me about some cool thing they bought recently, or a new video game they're playing. I get some people don't want to listen to others complain. Nowhere. It's easy to tell people they can just turn their life around and make it seem easy, when you don't know what it feels like to be so fucking miserable that even taking a shower and getting yourself clean is mentally exhausting.

Everything feels like it could fall apart in an instant. I keep everything in order, not to rattle the boat. Why aren't you keeping everything in order like I am!!? I'm so angry with you!!! 2023.04.01 11:13 losergarbage1 I'm tired of being miserable all the time, and everyone is tired of listening to me complain.
I've had a pretty rough life so far. My dad was my only real friend, and he died of cancer 2 years ago. He wanted in home hospice, so I moved in with him and took care of him. He died 6 months after been diagnosed with lung cancer. It's awful watching something wither away and die. I was right next to him when he died. Listening to someone's last breaths, and having to check their pulse, and then calling hospice to tell them he's dead is something no one should ever have to do. It's so brutal to watch someone die at the age of 63 from such an awful disease, while there are people who are still alive who are horrible and cruel.
I currently live with my mom, her husband, and my brother. My mom didn't help me take care of my dad (they're divorced), but she has the audacity to tell me 'it's been 2 years, you just need to get over it.' I was having a hard time taking a shower, because I was basically laying in bed for days, because my depression was horrible. I finally got up and got the motivation to at least make something to eat, and the first thing my mom says is 'Jesus, you really need to shower, you stink'. I tried the other day to bring up the fact that I've been sober from alcohol for 14 months. The first thing my mom said when I brought it up is 'yeah, but you stay up all night on the internet like some crazy person'.
I've always been an outcast. I'm overweight and balding. I'm painfully shy. I've always been an easy target for bullies. I got bullied in school, and I got bullied at home. Jesus, even people that haven't met me bully me online when I try to play multi-player video games. I don't fit in anywhere. I'm mad all the time, and I feel like I hate everyone as much as I hate myself.
I have really awful social anxiety. It's painful for me to even make eye contact or have to speak to someone in real life. I can't hold down jobs. I got hired by McDonalds at the age of 36, and I don't think I'm ready to work yet. I think I'm just not going to show up for my first shift.
I'm so tired of feeling miserable. I've been diagnosed with depression and GAD and c-PTSD. Meds don't help. Therapy doesn't help. I guess the problem is me. Maybe my brain is just too broken. Maybe I'm just too weak. Maybe I'm not meant to fit in. It's funny to me that everyone says I have potential, and I could keep trying. Where are those people when I need someone to talk to? Where are those people when I vent? Nowhere. It's easy to tell people they can just turn their life around and make it seem easy, when you don't know what it feels like to be so fucking miserable that even taking a shower and getting yourself clean is mentally exhausting.
I've just had enough. I feel bad if I do anything that my brother will be upset if I did. That's really the only thing holding me back. But, at the same time, is it fair to be to exist, and have suck a wretched miserable life just to prevent others from being sad? Anyway, that's my sad pathetic story. Thanks for listening.

Well, I might be an idiot anyway, but I'm just talking about this particular financial decision.
Over the past couple of months, I've been speaking to a bunch of different financial advisors about retirement. So far, there hasn't been an "OMG" moment - as in, that they've told me something where I thought, "Wow, I had no idea about that, and I'm glad that I spoke to you to prevent me from making such a big mistake." No light bulb. No epiphany.
In fact, many of them have agreed with some of the things I've put out there in previous posts:
My plan, such as it is, is to move my VOO/VBR into some mix of JEPI/DIVO/SCHD (or whatever the hot dividend ETFs are in 2035) as I get within 3-5 years of retirement. The mix will be balanced so that it will grow by 3-4% annually, to keep ahead of inflation, and spin off a yield of about 4-5% per year. I will have about 10% or so of my portfolio in REITs/BDCs to goose that yield up a skosh.
Ignoring the actual holdings for a moment - although, feel free to tear that apart, too - am I being an idiot with this plan to go it alone? It's just that these financial advisors want to charge something close to 1% per year - that's about $5-6K right now, and will continue to grow. I don't think they're really going to do anything I can't do myself.
So, let me hear from you guys that went it alone - how's that workin' out for ya? Any regrets? Do you wish you had gone with a financial advisor back when you were getting ready to retire?

- That Social Security is a fixed income = bond equivalent, such that, no, you don't need to load up quite as much on bonds, especially if you were a lifetime high earner (like me and my wife are) and your SS payments will make up a significant amount of your retirement income;
- That holding a certain percentage of bonds in decades or even years before actual retirement is designed more for someone with an average risk tolerance, as opposed to someone who has a very healthy tolerance for risk, like we do; and,
- That living off of dividends in retirement somewhat mitigates sequence of return risk, because you're not selling off shares of the underlying holdings.

I (20M) met jade (19F) in a club got very intimate spent most of the night with her. When she has to leave I get her number. And meet with her the next weekend. After that I try to plan to see her again but she just keeps saying she’s busy so a month passes and I call and messaged her and eventually plan for me to stay the night with her. When I get there everything is good we were talking and she was putting her legs on me and everything was going good. then we go out to get something to eat when we are walking to the restaurant I try to hold her hand but her keys are in them and she says that but doesn’t move them into her purse or other hand. After dinner when we get back to hers she sits on the single lounge while I’m on the double we talk for a bit longer then I say why don’t you come sit next to me and she says that that’s her favourite lounge even though she was sitting on the double when I got there. Eventually she says shes tired and says we should go to bed. She goes and has a shower while I wait on the bed after she gets out she comes in the room and sits on the chair then her friend/roommate comes home and jade gets into bed with me and her friend comes in the room sits on the chair talks for nearly 2 hours before she leaves. After she leaves she turns the lights off and lays down facing away from me (which she went out of her way to do the whole night and didn’t turn over once) so I go to put my arms around her and put my leg in between hers (which is what we did last time I slept with her) and she quite aggressively pushes my leg away. I still have my arm on her so after a minute or so I start touching her and everything’s fine until a certain point where she grabs my arm and pushes it away then says she’s really tired. So I just roll over go to sleep but wake up in the middle of the night I notice that she is awake again so I tried the same thing I did before with the same results. So I ask her if she’s alright and she just says she’s tired so I ask if I did something wrong and she says no shes just been feeling really tired lately and that’s why she hasn’t seen me in over a month (she has just moved in with her friend that month tho) I then say something else I don’t remember what tho and she says that she’s sorry cause she knows I had intentions when I came over and that she had the same ones but just wasn’t feeling herself and how she wanted to give me a chance because she thinks I’m a really nice guy. Eventually I have to leave for work and she walks me to the door gives me a hug she normally does and I leave. I message her a couple days later asking why she acted the way she did and she gets angry because she thinks I didn’t listen to what she said but I say I know what you said, I just don’t see what that has to do with you going out of your way to sleep on your side so you didn’t have to face me. And she replies that’s just the side I sleep on and I replied Ha, just like how you have your favourite lounge to sit on. So you couldn’t sit next to me. And she replied with sorry you feel like that. I got no clue what she means by that but what does everyone think?

I'll probably add some more posts likewise to this one as well as others now that I work in the social work field, but backstory: I was in and out of care my whole life, lived in many homes, attended many schools etc. Was separated from my two younger sisters who were moved to a city 9 hours away adopted by their aunt who was unfit to care for them (great job CPS!) I had been raising them as a young child, they were my babies. To this day, I still get sick at the thought of how they were failed. We were put in care for the last time (all four of us before my two younger siblings were "adopted") at the age of 10, becoming wards of the state (crownwards as I am from canada) and like winning a lottery with stakes that are never in your favour, my twin and I were so graciously adopted by our last foster parents at the age of 17.
Now to the experience I want to ask of, being placed in a home with your own siblings, did anyone else (i'm sure many have) foster homes have children of their own? how was that dynamic? did you get along? did the children mistreat you? favouritism? I know in a specific home where I had lived, many times we were treated as outsiders by their children, they wouldn't let us forget the burden we had placed on their family.
I remember holidays and birthdays (which are some of the most triggering times for a child in care) being asked (at the age of 8) to take their family photos for them? While their family came bringing gifts for my foster parents bio children, hugs, kisses, all while my sisters and I sat aside in a corner awkwardly placed as we knew we didn't belong watching the party like a holiday TV show special (we were told to keep quiet and behave so we were sure to not make any rukus) reminiscing our holidays past with our own family wishing so deeply they could go back, would ask us all in the midst of this to take photos for them. The worst was when the whole family would gather for the picture, adults of all ages, social workers, teachers, adults from all corners of life with children of their own all huddled by a christmas tree posing with smiles and silly faces watching an 8 year old foster kid take their christmas/easter whatever holiday photo. I know it doesn't seem like a big deal, but was just another reminder that I wasn't home with my family.
Now don't get me wrong, I understand laws exist on photos of kids in care, and I never ever expected for a random family member of my foster parents to bring us any gifts or shower us with hugs and attention. I knew this from a very early age. On holidays, it was easier to sit with my sisters and lay low and behave as we were told before events likewise. My reasoning for this post is I feel like so many of us have had these moments, moments in our childhoods where we understood that we aren't their family. Parties didn't end with a family photo and hot chocolate where we came from, sometimes, and normal to alot of us parties ended in police lights and cleaning up a mess from a long night of substance/verbal and physical abuse. I think some foster families need to be hyper aware of these situations. Get a tripod. Place your phone or camera on a chair, do ANYTHING but make your young foster children take your family photos. Include them in your family festivities the best you can. These kids aren't getting a real holiday. Please don't make it more awkward and uncomfortable then it is.
I'm not trying to bash foster families, I know its hard for everyone and I know maybe they didn't have the best judgement at the time. I don't know. I also know during that time life didn't revolve around me and my siblings and I'm not expecting every foster family to put us on a higher pedestal just because were foster kids, only to make us feel wanted and equal. (although I do stand by not making a child take your family photo like that ever) I just wanted to share an awkward - sad experience I had that makes my heart still feel weird to this day, even 15 years later.

This is mostly based on the show. I didn't finish the game but I don't think any of the relevant plot points are significantly different.
In E09 of The Last of Us we're shown and told about the source of Ellie's immunity. We see her mother, Anna, bitten by an infected while in labor, just before she delivers Ellie and cuts the umbilical cord. Later in the episode Marlene explains to Joel that the doctor thinks the cordyceps in Ellie has grown with her since birth and produces a chemical messenger that makes the "wild" cordyceps think she's already infected and that's why she's immune.
I have a different theory.
In the scene where we see Anna give birth to Ellie, the amount of time that passes from when she's bitten until she cuts Ellie's umbilical cord is about 40 seconds. It takes around 45 seconds for blood to circulate through the body, so in order for the cordyceps spores delivered by the bite to even reach the placenta through Anna's blood, they would have to have been directly delivered into a vein or artery. Based on the location of the bite and the small trickle of blood we see, the bite did not hit a blood vessel. So there would not have been enough time for the cordyceps spores to even reach the placenta.
When a woman is pregnant, there is not a direct connection between her blood supply and the baby's blood supply. They're separated by the placenta, which passes nutrients and oxygen to the baby but keeps their blood separate. We know it's possible for some types of infections to cross the placenta, but it's quite rare. So it's certainly not a guarantee that the mutated cordyceps could even cross the placenta if it did somehow have time to reach it.
Based on those two things, the explanation we're shown and that Marlene gives Joel simply doesn't make any sense. It's impossible for Ellie to have been infected by the bite that Anna received so shortly before delivering Ellie. I think there's a better explanation anyway.
It's daylight out when Anna delivers Ellie and it's fully dark when Marlene finds them, so several hours have passed. Anna tells Marlene a couple of things. She tells Marlene that Ellie needs to be fed because she didn't want to nurse her. She also tells Marlene that she cut the cord before she was bitten. When Marlene shows up Anna is sitting with a content sleeping Ellie. Newborn babies usually want to feed within an hour of being born. And babies get mad when they don't get fed. It's unlikely that Ellie would have been so quietly sleeping if she hadn't been fed in the several hours since being born. We already know that Anna lied to Marlene about cutting the cord before she was bitten. I think she also lied about not feeding Ellie. Given how often newborns need to eat she probably fed Ellie more than once. And that's where the immunity part comes in.
Fungal infections are rare in real life, but they do exist. A few species of fungus can cause disease in humans. The human immune system responds to fungal infections much the same way it does to viral and bacterial infections, including the formation of antibodies. The immune system likely reacts in the same way to the mutated cordyceps fungus, including producing antibodies. It simply can't react quickly enough to fight off the rapidly multiplying infection. We also know that mothers pass antibodies onto their babies through breast milk. And that there are a particularly large amount of antibodies in colostrum, the first milk that comes out after giving birth.
So Anna was bitten immediately before delivering. She nursed Ellie after giving birth. At the time she nursed Ellie, she was infected with the cordyceps fungus but it hadn't yet overcome her immune system, so she passed antibodies to Ellie through her colostrum. Ellie's immunity didn't come because she cordyceps grew with her since birth. She was immune because her system learned to fight it as a newborn and so when she was bitten she was able to fight it off.
I think we see further evidence for this theory in Ellie's bite mark. We see the mark several times in the show and she has the same sort of marks that we see in people in the early stages of the infection. Only Ellie's are scar tissue. If Ellie really did already have the cordyceps in her system since birth, why would she have had any reaction to being bitten at all? Based on the scars, it seems a lot more likely that she had the same response most people did to a bite, but unlike most people, Ellie was able to fight it off because her immune system had been taught how to fight cordyceps at birth and was able to respond faster than the infection could multiply.
This also means that Joel's decision to rescue Ellie from the Fireflies at the end was the right decision. Their plan to kill her and remove her brain wouldn't have worked, because it was based on a faulty premise. It was also a really stupid idea. Ellie was literally irreplaceable. As far as anyone knew she was the only person on the world who was immune. And their plan was to immediately kill her. Not start with a blood sample. Maybe try a sample of bone marrow or cerebral spinal fluid. Hell, they could have even done a brain biopsy if their studies supported that they needed brain tissue to work on the cure. Nope, none of that shit, just kill her immediately. "Hey guys, we have a goose here that lays golden eggs, what do you want me to do with it?" "Shoot it, we're having goose for dinner." Idiots.
The biggest hole in this theory is that the immunity that mothers pass onto their babies during pregnancy and breastfeeding is normally temporary. It lasts for maybe a year at most. But fungal infections don't usually turn people into zombies, so I don't think it really needs any more suspension of disbelief than the show as a whole. Maybe there was enough cordyceps just floating around in the environment to keep Ellie's immune system primed to fight it off when she was bitten.

2023.04.01 10:03 Showmeyourpersona I wanna stop being in pain
So to give a lil story and keep it short about 3 yrs ago I was sleeping on the floor and wearing tight bras everyday so I’m sure that’s what caused this and rn it isn’t as bad as it was but I was dealing with severe shoulder pain went to the er cuz it got so bad I would keel over feel like passing out and felt a sharp pain in my left shoulder and each time I’ve gone to the er which was like 3 times for this situation they jus say it’s anxiety even tho I mostly tell them my situation. Like if it is anxiety it isn’t caused by anxiety my anxiety is caused by it if that’s makes sense. I’m pretty sure it was mostly caused by bras cuz it started earlier before sleeping on the ground anyways for that entire year it was horrible cuz it lasted for so long and spread to both shoulders and would get so bad I had to sleep on my back and gave me a full on panic attack that lasted a couple minutes and then for some reason a couple times when tryna lay down on my back my ribs would hurt too. Last year I wanna say around january I would get intense chest pain in the middle and then also in my back felt like someone was shoving a knife in my chest slowly in my back that would last hours and only months later did I go to the er for it but they said my heart was fine cuz even at that moment I was having chest pain. Around this time I was unemployed and now I’m employed so maybe being completely sedentary didn’t help but when I tried working out or doing specific shoulder exercises my chest pain got worse. Now atm my shoulders still get quite sore it’s not intense pain but sometimes kinda and chest pain is the same not severe ig but still concerning and idk what to do I tried eating as healthy as I can yk like eggs, tuna, homemade dinner by my parents or myself some weeks I’ll be fine and then it’ll get worse again and it’s been like that for the past couple years or so. It doesn’t help also I’ve gone thru like multiple breakups so there’s also that. And yes I’ve thought inflammation so think of any inflammation remedies I’ve prolly tried it fish oil, vitamins, green tea, ice, hot salt baths, etc etc

Hello everyone. My fish(african cichlid) is sick and needs help, please someone tell me what is wrong or some recommendations on how to treat them. Please bear with me this will be lengthy.
Last week (the 24th) when I went home I noticed my fish was not its usual self. It was paler than usual, gills somewhat more red, some of its scales in its lower back were pushed out, it seemed like it had a hard time breathing and its stomach was barely sinking/concaving inwards. My parents did not notice a difference especially in the stomach but my sibling agreed it was acting strange. I did a 25% water change and usually it does not care when the siphon enters the water but that day it just kept chasing it and trying to shake against it.
The next day I knew something was wrong because the stomach was more notable, they were staying in the corner of the tank, they were not eating/pooping, and I was told they were not eating much for a few days. I know nothing about fish medicine so I bought a bunch of stuff: API General Cure, Seachem Garlic Guard, Seachem Focus, and Seachem Metroplex.
At this point I was not sure what was wrong because I was reading so many things and there were symptoms that matched everything. Like was it swim bladder disease, a parasite, infection, hole in the head, simply constipated, stressed?? And I am still not sure.
Last Saturday, I gave him the first dose of API general cure and added some aquarium salt. Still would not eat or poop. And the gills were no longer red but he now stayed near the top of the water. Sunday, I can notice more of the belly and usually I keep the flow of the hand on the filter high but I noticed he was kinda weak and being pushed back by the flow (broke my heart), so I turned it down.
Monday I had to go back to school and my sibling was in charge of him, they made sure to give the final dose of the general cure. Garlic guard arrived in the mail and my sibling soaked some pellets in it. Fish only ate 2 (I think this was the last time he ate).
Thursday comes around, gills are kinda pink, has not eaten the pellets with garlic guard or peeled+chopped peas that were added into the tank. Kinda leaning to the side.
Friday (the 31st), it has gotten bad. My mom called me saying she's worried since he's swimming on his side and is staying hidden in its barrel/ house.
Sibling calls me to confirm he's not eating/pooping and when it swims it can kinda do so normally but when it stops it starts to go sideways(basically laying down completely sideways). He's also breathing very fast and just does not look like he's doing well.
I am currently on my way home right now but I don’t know what to do or what is causing it.
I was thinking its constipation caused by overfeeding but then why is he on his side? Bladder disease/issue? But what does that mean? How do I fix it? I saw someone talk about epsom salt but will that not harm him? Should I stop using aquarium salt? I’m trying to give peas for fiber but he won’t even eat at all, and idk if I should keep trying to feed him because he's not pooping. Does the stomach indicate a parasite, bacterial infection, or because he's not eating?? Is there a fish vet I can call or something? I tested my water multiple times and it's all good.
Should I add the MetroPlex+focus+garlic guard? Anything you recommend?
I don’t know what to do. PLEASE help me. I do not care what I have to spend or if I have to skip classes, I just want him to get better, I don’t want to lose my little guy.

Monday I had to go back to school and my sibling was in charge of him, they made sure to give the final dose of the general cure. Garlic guard arrived in the mail and my sibling soaked some pellets in it. Fish only ate 2 (I think this was the last time he ate).
Thursday comes around, gills are kinda pink, has not eaten the pellets with garlic guard or peeled+chopped peas that were added into the tank. Kinda leaning to the side.
Friday (the 31st), it has gotten bad. My mom called me saying she's worried since he's swimming on his side and is staying hidden in its barrel/ house.
Sibling calls me to confirm he's not eating/pooping and when it swims it can kinda do so normally but when it stops it starts to go sideways(basically laying down completely sideways). He's also breathing very fast and just does not look like he's doing well.
I am currently on my way home right now but I don’t know what to do or what is causing it.
I was thinking its constipation caused by overfeeding but then why is he on his side? Bladder disease/issue? But what does that mean? How do I fix it? Hello everyone. My fish(african cichlid) is sick and needs help, please someone tell me what is wrong or some recommendations on how to treat them. Please bear with me this will be lengthy.
Last week (the 24th) when I went home I noticed my fish was not its usual self. It was paler than usual, gills somewhat more red, some of its scales in its lower back were pushed out, it seemed like it had a hard time breathing and its stomach was barely sinking/concaving inwards. My parents did not notice a difference especially in the stomach but my sibling agreed it was acting strange. I did a 25% water change and usually it does not care when the siphon enters the water but that day it just kept chasing it and trying to shake against it.
The next day I knew something was wrong because the stomach was more notable, they were staying in the corner of the tank, they were not eating/pooping, and I was told they were not eating much for a few days. I know nothing about fish medicine so I bought a bunch of stuff: API General Cure, Seachem Garlic Guard, Seachem Focus, and Seachem Metroplex.

I want to quit but I can't. My body just craves this substance constantly every day and it's torture trying to fight it every night and many nights I lose the battle.
It started off innocent, me and my friends wanted to experiment and we found a dealer who sold us a gram. My first line was so small that I didn't feel any effect of the coke apart from being a little focused.
We met up again the next night to try it and we did more and I started to feel the effects. Surprisingly coke made me calm and I could think clearly. My ADHD made me extreamly erratic and constantly engaging in high risk driving and stunts with my sports cars to chase dopamine. For once I didn't feel the need to engage in any of that after doing a couple lines. I was well behaved, focused. I felt like I could get so much work done, and I did. Productivity went up, sales went up. Everything was good.
I started using it daily and realized that smoking cigarettes after doing a line felt amazing. I was hooked on that feeling. I started chain smoking and would eventually sniff an entire gram of coke a night and smoke 1/2 to 1 pack of cigs a night. It was disgusting but I loved it.
Then I drank a little wine and realized cocaine mixed with alcohol created a more intense feeling. I was drunk but in control. Mixing the 3 ( cocaine, cigarettes, alcohol ) was a high I never experienced before and I got addicted to the mixture of all 3. I could do coke without doing the other 2 substance.
Eventually after 1 year of heavy abuse I felt the negative effects of cocaine on my body. My heart felt weird everytime did coke, my body became super jittery after consuming massive lines of blow. My personality became zombified after doing coke. I could no longer interact people socially. I became paranoid and constantly felt like I was being watched. More over I could no longer work without coke. I was dependent on coke to get any work done as my motivated was almost non existent without it.
Once I felt the negative effects on my body the high was never the same again. I would sniff so much coke in one go sometimes I thought I would die of a heart attack and just pace around or lay down. My heart felt like it was pumping weird.
I've been to the hospital about 20+ times because I thought I was going to OD. My heart rate was almost 150 per min. I would drive to the hospital while chain smoking and once I get to the hospital I would do a line in the car before clenching my chest into the emergency room. And would constantly go to the washroom to do coke while I waited for treatment.
Coke is so dangerous because it tricks your mind to constantly want MORE. You needed to maintain the high and when the high started to die down you seek out more coke to keep it going. I wanted coke more then life at some points.
I eventually realized that I needed to quit. My friends where leaving me left and right. Everyone had given up on me. I went from 140 lb to 115 lb. People would outright ask me if I'm on drugs just by looking at me.
I started off by cutting down to half gram a night and max 6 to 7 cigarettes. Then I managed to go a few days sober 1 day high but some weeks / days I would relapse hard. It's still progress so I'll take it.
I started eating more and regained back to 120 lb and then I started going to the gym everyday to get fit again. 6 months later I'm 135lb with a lot more muscle mass this time. People started complimenting me saying I got more defined or bigger.
I no longer do coke the entire day, if I do coke that day I'll wait till the evening, eat all my meals and try to be as nourished as possible.
But I still do coke. The high is never the same but It's a high like no other. I still feel paranoid, my heart still feels fucked up everytime I do it. But for some reason my body still crave it every fucking night. I'm writing this in torment knowing that although tonight I'm sober tommmorow I'll likely lose the battle.
Stay away from drugs. Man I hope I don't die young.

It was raining when she came. Dark skies had threatened a downpour all day, claps of thunder intermittent but the rain itself had held off until nightfall, until after we had gotten home, tucked into pj's and sheltered from the storm.
Hearing the door chime didn't surprise me, but it should have. My home is not central to anything. You need to travel dirt tracks and winding roads. Unless you know where you're going, I'm very hard to find. I wasn't expecting anyone, but still I rose from where I'd been sitting on the couch, trying to unwind after a long day. I wasn't psychic or anything, but I had a peculiar feeling all day that something wasn't right and hearing the knocking had cemented that for me.
She was dressed in a green sundress, sandals, a very strange sight considering the weather. And as the wind and rain danced violently around her, whipping her long, wet, dark hair around in every which direction, she simply looked possessed, like a crazy person. But still, I didn't flinch. Instead I opened the door, taking a step back to allow her inside. She glared at me as she stepped inside, dripping water onto the wooden floorboards, and making squelching noises with every step she took. "I'm not here to play games, Thomas. Where is he? Where is my son?"
For a moment, I'd had hope. Despite how she had arrived, despite the look in her eyes. I took a long breath, trying to compose myself, to keep my voice from breaking as I told her the news she had never been able to accept. "Ava, your son's gone, he's in heaven now. You.. You killed him."
The rage in her eyes broke me, sending shivers down my neck. She screamed like a wild animal caught in a trap, running to find the first thing she could grab hold of - my glass coffee table - and lift it and throw it as hard, and as far as she could against the wall. We were silent, breathless, as we listened to the glass shatter into a million pieces.
I'd never been close to my sister. She had been born years after me, after my mother had passed away and dad remarried, I was 15 when Ava came into the world. I remember holding her awkwardly, feeling something between love and contempt for this scrunched up, pink skinned and blue eyed little human.
I was moved out, living my own life by the time she learnt to ride a bike, by the time she started school. I saw them occasionally, holidays like Christmas and we would make awkward conversation over the phone on birthdays, but as time passed it was like they all were strangers to me, we had nothing in common, my dad and my step mum were busy with teenager Ava, and I was busy trying to start a family of my own. Life just got busy, I guess.
When I got the phone call saying dad and my step mum had been killed in a car crash, I was devastated. I kicked myself for not spending more time with them, and then my thoughts went to my sister, to Ava, 16 years old and now, all alone. I got on the phone and told her I was on my way to her, ready to help my little sister in any way I could. I realised I was about to become a guardian of a teenage girl who I basically knew nothing about, a teenage girl who was grieving the death of the only family she had ever known.
I needn't have been so rush in my decision to jump in the car, by the time I arrived it was clear that Ava was basically fine. It had been less than 24 hours since her parents death, but she was sipping on a daiquiri by the pool when I arrived. I cried to her and she held my hand in cold disdain. I never saw a tear.
It was only a mere few weeks later that I got another call, this time from a worried neighbor. The police tape cautioned off the childhood house I grew up in, a dozen or so officers roamed the yard and trailed in and out of the house, bringing out bags marked as 'Evidence'.
I wasn't sure what was going on. I knew dad and my step mum had been killed in a car accident, I wasn't sure if it was protocol to search the home of a deceased accident victim, I had no idea. So when I eventually saw little Ava sat in the back of one of the patrol cars, my heart dropped into my stomach.
I went over to the car to talk to her. To ask her what the heck was going on, but before I can get a word out, a beefy officer is standing between me and the car, his arm outstretched in a stop signal. "Sorry, I just wanted to talk to my sister. This is my parents house and -" The cop looked incredulous, shaking his head slowly then quicker with every word I spoke. He didn't respond to me in anyway once I finished talking, just started me in the eyes as he took his walkie talkie off his belt, and spoke into it. He asked for his boss, Stat.
I'm lead into a cop car myself. Although I'm not arrested, or cuffed, I still feel anxious getting inside. I wonder how scared Ava must be, and the thought makes me mad. Why the hell are they interviewing us in the back of a damn cop car? I fired my question at the Sargent and the cop in the front seat, and watched as they passed a look between themselves.
"I'm sorry no one's explained the situation to you, sir. Your sister isn't being interviewed. She has been arrested, and once the boys have finished up with the evidece bags, she'll be heading down to lock up. She is being charger with murder, so if you have a lawyer, how will probably be the time to get in contact." "Mm-murder? What are you talking about? I was told my parents had been killed in a car accident and now you're telling me my little sister had something to do with their death?"
"Sorry, sir. I should have been more clear. You're correct, your father and his wife were killed in a motor vichele aciident. This is relating to something... Ah, someone else, entirely. Now I need to ask you a few questions while we've got you here, if we aren't done by the time the others are ready to leave, we can continue this down at the station. That okay?" I nod numbly, not taking in what they're saying. The first question he asks me, is if I knew my 16 year old sister had been pregnant. I look out the window and catch Ava's eye. She smiles and waves at me, and even though I feel sick to the stomach, I plaster on a fake smile and wave back, as well.
Now, in this moment, I make Ava tea. She has showered, now warm and dressed in one of my old dressing towns. She cries as she sips the tea, saying she's sorry she's sorry she's sorry. She didn't do it. She didn't do it. She didn't do it. I give her a look of comfort and tell her it's okay, it's all going to be okay. She eats the lemon biscuit I brought out with the tea, between mouthfulls she tells me about living in the psychiatric ward, about how the people there scared her and the medicine she took made her feel sleepy and dull.
She asks me if she can stay here for a while, and I tell her of course she can. She's my little sister and I love her, no matter what. I tuck her into the spare bed, telling her things we be better in the morning, but she's already snoring by the time I finish my sentance. I close the door, sliding the lock behind me. As I prepare the evenings snack, I am feeling relived. I knew Ava wouldn't be having a great time in that place, but whenever I called up to see how she was going, she would only ever say things were fine, opting to always end our conversation before the allocated time was up.
I could hear the sadness in her voice, the desperation to get out, and it broke me. I would offer to come visit, bring her anything she felt like but she said with the contraband ban, there was no point. She never felt like having a visitor, refusing my requests and when I asked the nurses about it, they told me she spent most of her time staring off into space, they couldn't force her to accept visits, and that was that.
She would be out when she turned 23, after serving the 7 year sentence for the manslaughter of her newborn. Everyone said she was lucky to not get jail, but after hearing her voice in the psychiatric ward, I wasn't so sure I agreed.
Now she's here, out of that awful place. I'm going to really take care of her, something I should have done all those years ago. I'm her big brother after all, and it's up to me to make sure she's looked after. I go down stairs, this time carefully carrying a tray, with warm milk and few of the infamous lemon biscuits.
Karl is sitting up cross legged in his race car bed, concentration vivid on his little face as he plays a game on his Xbox. A moment later he let's out a little whoop, and I can't help but to smile at his excitement. "Kicking everyone's butts still, I see." Karl laughs at my comment, blushing but pleased. I can tell he's chuffed, and it makes me happy seeing his genuine joy.
I place the tray on his desk, and sit next to him to watch him play for a while. He offers me the controller and asks if I want to have a turn? I shake my head, and thank him, telling him its time for this old man to be getting to bed. He grins at me when I call myself an old man, and shakes his head laughing as he calls me silly.
"Milk and biscuits here when you're ready. Remember, lights out in an hour. I love you, son." "Okay, thanks dad. I love you, too."
As I walk out of his room, I ponder for a moment, wondering and hoping it wasnt, if it was possible he had heard any of that commotion upstairs, but eyes still glued to the screen, Karl seemed as happy as ever and basically impervious to anything apart from the car racing game he was playing.
It was me who'd asked her to babysit. Begged her, really. Told her how much Jennie and I had been fighting, how hard the baby was on our relationship. She said she really wanted to help her big brother out and she even said it would be a welcome distraction from the finals she was studying for. No mention of the parents she had recently lost.
She told me she felt a bit nervous about it all, but she felt it would be good for her, as well. I agreed. We organised a time for an evening a night away, and that was that, my plan was in motion. Done all over HiddentextApp of course, so there was no trace of our conversation.
It was all the rage with the kids these days, according to Google, so when I suggested it to my sister, she hadn't batted an eyelid. I knew she had been having trouble sleeping, and honestly, for the both of us, it seemed like the easiest way.
There would be no one to blame, it would be a simple, cruel act of nature that no one would even consider questioning. She could of said it was an accident, and everyone would have believed her. I didn't think she would do what she did. I asked her if she was still okay to babysit, feigning guilt and worry, and she had nodded. Our fathers and her mother's death had not seemed to greatly affect her. She seemed bored of talk of them. "A distraction would be great." I thanked her with a close, tight hug, and told her I'd brewed her some green tea and made a batch of an old recipe my mum used to make me while I was growing up, lemon biscuits.
Once Ava was settled on my couch, Netflix on the tv, with her snacks and mug of green tea. She had baby monitor on hand so she was ready to hear the cries that would never come. I expected silence when I got home. I expected Ava, sleeping peacefully, still on the couch where she had first sat down.
But she wasn't. And the house was not silent, instead the sound of an electric saw penetrated the halls. Maybe the shock of losing both parents, perhaps she felt bad for the fact they were out on the roads that night, they would have been safely tucked up in their bed if it had not been for their teenage daughter needing to be picked up. I don't know, seeing the baby like that.. Well, I guess that honestly would've broken anyone's soul.
At the start, I tried to explain to her, calmly and using soft voices, but she was beyond contemplating my words. It was as if what I was saying to her, she just simply could not comprehend. I tried to stop her, honestly I did, but she was a force that could not be reckoned with and truly, Ava had basically already finished when I arrived home.
The walls were painted red. My hacksaw now lay disgauardrd to one side of Ava, who was just as red as the walls. I didn't notice the noise had ceased. All I could hear was the hammering of my own heart in my chest. She cradled something white and rubbery to her chest, blood making it slippery to keep hold of, and once I realised what it was, I'm throwing up and crying and screaming as well.
When I catch my breath I ask what the fuck she has done and she tells me it's her son, her son, her son. She loves him. She loves him to pieces and she's never going to leave him. She was fixing him. Fixing him. Fixing him. She laughs and smiles. I take her home, with what's left of the baby wrapped up in a towel. She holds the towel as we drive, singing to it, cooing.
The scene is stuck in my memory, a picture I have tried hard to forget, but it greets me every time I close my eyes. I sit in the car and watch as she cradles the bundle in one arm, still singing softly to it, and let's her self inside my empty, parentless childhood home.
Now she is back, and this time she is a threat to my family. To my son, who can never ever know what this woman has done. She's still sleeping when I go back into the spare bedroom.
I am not surprised, because I did give her enough sleeping pills in her green tea to knock out a grown man. But, I had no choice really. If only she stayed away..I sigh to myself as I place the pillow over the top of her head. She could have started her life all over again. But no, she couldn't. As a good big brother, it was my responsibility to help her, in whatever way that meant.
I knew she would never accept that her son was dead or that she had been the one to kill and dismember him. I knew her life would be a constant battle of heart break and pain. I was doing her a favor. And keeping my family safe, as well.
It's almost daylight when I return home. I am straight into the shower, dressing quickly for my day before I head into the kitchen and get started on Karl's favorite breakfast - banana pancakes with maple bacon on the side.
He beams as I pass him his plate and thanks me for being the best daddy in the whole world. It's always the moments like this that I feel a pang of guilt. I wonder if his brother would have the same opinion, had he still been around. In my mind I picture the two of them, identical twins, sat side by side with me at the table.
Would Rory had liked maple bacon? I ruffle Karl's hair as he finishes eating, telling him he better get a move on if he doesnt want to miss his bus again, and he laughs and goes to get dressed for school. Before he left, he flashed me a grin and crinkled his green eyes with happiness. I think of last night, of Ava, those same green eyes staring up at me in panic when she woke up, managing to push the pillow off her.
She glared at me, opening her mouth to scream, or maybe ask me why, but I placed the pillow back in place and leaned down before she could speak. Her eyes were open when I eventually took the pillow off again, this time the green eyes were bloodshot and vacant,staring at nothing. The exact same eyes I had seen on Rory when I walked into the twins bedroom to check on him. He was blue, his eyes that blazed green were open, unblinking. I stared at him for a long time, until Karl's crys woke me up, brought me back to reality. I took Karl down for his bottle, placing a blanket on his brother, who was cold to the touch. I knew it was too late. I knew it didn't matter anymore. But to me, it would always matter.
I was a good dad, really I was. I had wanted to be a dad for so long, that when I heard my baby sister was pregnant at 15 years old, I felt sick with anger and disappointed. But my dad and step mum had pleaded for me to take the babies, to raise them. Ava didn't want them, she wanted to get rid of them, but it was too late in the pregnancy.
They told me Ava had her whole life ahead of her. They told me I could have what I had always wanted, to be a dad. We didn't have to tell anyone. It would be a family secret. Just better for everyone that way, my dad had said. So I agreed.
I had never wanted to hurt Ava. I had given her sleeping pills so she wouldn't go searching for her son. So she could simply fall asleep, and I'd come home later that evening, and together we would discover the absolute heart breaking news that baby Rory had passed away in his sleep. Which is what had happened, just a few hours before.
She had questioned why their would only be one baby to look after, but when I explained that Karl had been a bit under the weather and we wanted to keep a close eye on him, she didn't give it another thought. She never even asked why Jennie wasn't around, given we were supposedly heading off for a mini getaway sans one child.
I hadn't told anyone we'd separated, after she decided having kids just wasn't for her. I felt guilty, but not too guilty. Ava had given the babies away without another thought, not even bothering to check in on them or ask how they were growing. I didn't think it would truly affect her so much. And so.. Badly.
But in a fucked up way, it all worked out in the end, I guess.
Karl was safe then, because the girl that was his mother had truly lost her mind and she was kept away in a place she couldn't reach him, even thought it seemed as if she had completely forgotten of his existence, I always had the idea in my head that she would one day remember there had been two bright green eyed boys, not just the one.
And what if she wanted her other son back, as well? I've kept him safe, unlike I was able to do for his brother. And I wasn't about to start letting someone mess with the sweet natured and gentle boy I'd raised.
I saw things in Ava that made me realise I had never known her, only knew what I thought she was, what I wanted to her to be, the sweet, sweet little sister. Instead, my sibling had been a devil in disguise. As we leave the house, ready to make our trekk to the school bus stop, I glance at the window at the fresh mound of dirt thats waiting to be spread when I get back.
Karl notices it, and asks if he can plant some roses there when he gets home. I tell him that's a wonderful idea, wondering if and how he could possibly know that flowers were Ava's favorite flower.
I shake the idea from my head, and together we walk down the dirt roads, hand in hand.

Hearing the door chime didn't surprise me, but it should have. My home is not central to anything. You need to travel dirt tracks and winding roads. Unless you know where you're going, I'm very hard to find. I wasn't expecting anyone, but still I rose from where I'd been sitting on the couch, trying to unwind after a long day. I wasn't psychic or anything, but I had a peculiar feeling all day that something wasn't right and hearing the knocking had cemented that for me.
She was dressed in a green sundress, sandals, a very strange sight considering the weather. And as the wind and rain danced violently around her, whipping her long, wet, dark hair around in every which direction, she simply looked possessed, like a crazy person. But still, I didn't flinch. Instead I opened the door, taking a step back to allow her inside. She glared at me as she stepped inside, dripping water onto the wooden floorboards, and making squelching noises with every step she took. "I'm not here to play games, Thomas. Where is he? Where is my son?"
For a moment, I'd had hope. Despite how she had arrived, despite the look in her eyes. I took a long breath, trying to compose myself, to keep my voice from breaking as I told her the news she had never been able to accept. "Ava, your son's gone, he's in heaven now. You.. You killed him."
The rage in her eyes broke me, sending shivers down my neck. She screamed like a wild animal caught in a trap, running to find the first thing she could grab hold of - my glass coffee table - and lift it and throw it as hard, and as far as she could against the wall. We were silent, breathless, as we listened to the glass shatter into a million pieces.
I'd never been close to my sister. She had been born years after me, after my mother had passed away and dad remarried, I was 15 when Ava came into the world. I remember holding her awkwardly, feeling something between love and contempt for this scrunched up, pink skinned and blue eyed little human.
I was moved out, living my own life by the time she learnt to ride a bike, by the time she started school. I saw them occasionally, holidays like Christmas and we would make awkward conversation over the phone on birthdays, but as time passed it was like they all were strangers to me, we had nothing in common, my dad and my step mum were busy with teenager Ava, and I was busy trying to start a family of my own. Life just got busy, I guess.
When I got the phone call saying dad and my step mum had been killed in a car crash, I was devastated. I kicked myself for not spending more time with them, and then my thoughts went to my sister, to Ava, 16 years old and now, all alone. I got on the phone and told her I was on my way to her, ready to help my little sister in any way I could. I realised I was about to become a guardian of a teenage girl who I basically knew nothing about, a teenage girl who was grieving the death of the only family she had ever known.
I needn't have been so rush in my decision to jump in the car, by the time I arrived it was clear that Ava was basically fine. It had been less than 24 hours since her parents death, but she was sipping on a daiquiri by the pool when I arrived. I cried to her and she held my hand in cold disdain. I never saw a tear.
It was only a mere few weeks later that I got another call, this time from a worried neighbor. The police tape cautioned off the childhood house I grew up in, a dozen or so officers roamed the yard and trailed in and out of the house, bringing out bags marked as 'Evidence'.
I wasn't sure what was going on. I knew dad and my step mum had been killed in a car accident, I wasn't sure if it was protocol to search the home of a deceased accident victim, I had no idea. So when I eventually saw little Ava sat in the back of one of the patrol cars, my heart dropped into my stomach.
I went over to the car to talk to her. To ask her what the heck was going on, but before I can get a word out, a beefy officer is standing between me and the car, his arm outstretched in a stop signal. "Sorry, I just wanted to talk to my sister. This is my parents house and -" The cop looked incredulous, shaking his head slowly then quicker with every word I spoke. He didn't respond to me in anyway once I finished talking, just started me in the eyes as he took his walkie talkie off his belt, and spoke into it. He asked for his boss, Stat.
I'm lead into a cop car myself. Although I'm not arrested, or cuffed, I still feel anxious getting inside. I wonder how scared Ava must be, and the thought makes me mad. Why the hell are they interviewing us in the back of a damn cop car? I fired my question at the Sargent and the cop in the front seat, and watched as they passed a look between themselves.
"I'm sorry no one's explained the situation to you, sir. Your sister isn't being interviewed. She has been arrested, and once the boys have finished up with the evidece bags, she'll be heading down to lock up. She is being charger with murder, so if you have a lawyer, how will probably be the time to get in contact." "Mm-murder? What are you talking about? I was told my parents had been killed in a car accident and now you're telling me my little sister had something to do with their death?"
"Sorry, sir. I should have been more clear. You're correct, your father and his wife were killed in a motor vichele aciident. This is relating to something... Ah, someone else, entirely. Now I need to ask you a few questions while we've got you here, if we aren't done by the time the others are ready to leave, we can continue this down at the station. That okay?" I nod numbly, not taking in what they're saying. The first question he asks me, is if I knew my 16 year old sister had been pregnant. I look out the window and catch Ava's eye. She smiles and waves at me, and even though I feel sick to the stomach, I plaster on a fake smile and wave back, as well.
Now, in this moment, I make Ava tea. She has showered, now warm and dressed in one of my old dressing towns. She cries as she sips the tea, saying she's sorry she's sorry she's sorry. She didn't do it. She didn't do it. She didn't do it. I give her a look of comfort and tell her it's okay, it's all going to be okay. She eats the lemon biscuit I brought out with the tea, between mouthfulls she tells me about living in the psychiatric ward, about how the people there scared her and the medicine she took made her feel sleepy and dull.
She asks me if she can stay here for a while, and I tell her of course she can. She's my little sister and I love her, no matter what. I tuck her into the spare bed, telling her things we be better in the morning, but she's already snoring by the time I finish my sentance. I close the door, sliding the lock behind me. As I prepare the evenings snack, I am feeling relived. I knew Ava wouldn't be having a great time in that place, but whenever I called up to see how she was going, she would only ever say things were fine, opting to always end our conversation before the allocated time was up.
I could hear the sadness in her voice, the desperation to get out, and it broke me. I would offer to come visit, bring her anything she felt like but she said with the contraband ban, there was no point. She never felt like having a visitor, refusing my requests and when I asked the nurses about it, they told me she spent most of her time staring off into space, they couldn't force her to accept visits, and that was that.
She would be out when she turned 23, after serving the 7 year sentence for the manslaughter of her newborn. Everyone said she was lucky to not get jail, but after hearing her voice in the psychiatric ward, I wasn't so sure I agreed.
Now she's here, out of that awful place. I'm going to really take care of her, something I should have done all those years ago. I'm her big brother after all, and it's up to me to make sure she's looked after. I go down stairs, this time carefully carrying a tray, with warm milk and few of the infamous lemon biscuits.
Karl is sitting up cross legged in his race car bed, concentration vivid on his little face as he plays a game on his Xbox. A moment later he let's out a little whoop, and I can't help but to smile at his excitement. "Kicking everyone's butts still, I see." Karl laughs at my comment, blushing but pleased. I can tell he's chuffed, and it makes me happy seeing his genuine joy.
I place the tray on his desk, and sit next to him to watch him play for a while. He offers me the controller and asks if I want to have a turn? I shake my head, and thank him, telling him its time for this old man to be getting to bed. He grins at me when I call myself an old man, and shakes his head laughing as he calls me silly.
"Milk and biscuits here when you're ready. Remember, lights out in an hour. I love you, son." "Okay, thanks dad. I love you, too."
As I walk out of his room, I ponder for a moment, wondering and hoping it wasnt, if it was possible he had heard any of that commotion upstairs, but eyes still glued to the screen, Karl seemed as happy as ever and basically impervious to anything apart from the car racing game he was playing.
It was me who'd asked her to babysit. Begged her, really. Told her how much Jennie and I had been fighting, how hard the baby was on our relationship. She said she really wanted to help her big brother out and she even said it would be a welcome distraction from the finals she was studying for. No mention of the parents she had recently lost.
She told me she felt a bit nervous about it all, but she felt it would be good for her, as well. I agreed. We organised a time for an evening a night away, and that was that, my plan was in motion. Done all over HiddentextApp of course, so there was no trace of our conversation.
It was all the rage with the kids these days, according to Google, so when I suggested it to my sister, she hadn't batted an eyelid. I knew she had been having trouble sleeping, and honestly, for the both of us, it seemed like the easiest way.
There would be no one to blame, it would be a simple, cruel act of nature that no one would even consider questioning. She could of said it was an accident, and everyone would have believed her. I didn't think she would do what she did. I asked her if she was still okay to babysit, feigning guilt and worry, and she had nodded. Our fathers and her mother's death had not seemed to greatly affect her. She seemed bored of talk of them. "A distraction would be great." I thanked her with a close, tight hug, and told her I'd brewed her some green tea and made a batch of an old recipe my mum used to make me while I was growing up, lemon biscuits.
Once Ava was settled on my couch, Netflix on the tv, with her snacks and mug of green tea. She had baby monitor on hand so she was ready to hear the cries that would never come. I expected silence when I got home. I expected Ava, sleeping peacefully, still on the couch where she had first sat down.
But she wasn't. And the house was not silent, instead the sound of an electric saw penetrated the halls. Maybe the shock of losing both parents, perhaps she felt bad for the fact they were out on the roads that night, they would have been safely tucked up in their bed if it had not been for their teenage daughter needing to be picked up. I don't know, seeing the baby like that.. Well, I guess that honestly would've broken anyone's soul.
At the start, I tried to explain to her, calmly and using soft voices, but she was beyond contemplating my words. It was as if what I was saying to her, she just simply could not comprehend. I tried to stop her, honestly I did, but she was a force that could not be reckoned with and truly, Ava had basically already finished when I arrived home.
The walls were painted red. My hacksaw now lay disgauardrd to one side of Ava, who was just as red as the walls. I didn't notice the noise had ceased. All I could hear was the hammering of my own heart in my chest. She cradled something white and rubbery to her chest, blood making it slippery to keep hold of, and once I realised what it was, I'm throwing up and crying and screaming as well.
When I catch my breath I ask what the fuck she has done and she tells me it's her son, her son, her son. She loves him. She loves him to pieces and she's never going to leave him. She was fixing him. Fixing him. Fixing him. She laughs and smiles. I take her home, with what's left of the baby wrapped up in a towel. She holds the towel as we drive, singing to it, cooing.
The scene is stuck in my memory, a picture I have tried hard to forget, but it greets me every time I close my eyes. I sit in the car and watch as she cradles the bundle in one arm, still singing softly to it, and let's her self inside my empty, parentless childhood home.
Now she is back, and this time she is a threat to my family. To my son, who can never ever know what this woman has done. She's still sleeping when I go back into the spare bedroom.
I am not surprised, because I did give her enough sleeping pills in her green tea to knock out a grown man. But, I had no choice really. If only she stayed away..I sigh to myself as I place the pillow over the top of her head. She could have started her life all over again. But no, she couldn't. 26f, my family always has and always will be the thing that lights up my whole world. My mom is my best friend;
I was 15 when my parents got divorced, and since I moved away for college/started my own life, all I’ve wanted is to come home closer to my parents before they both retire and go their separate ways (they both still live in the same town, I’m 2 hrs driving distance).
My fiancé and I actually agreed to move back closer to them come fall this yr so that I could be pregnant/pukey/sad around them and to be able to walk thru my moms door especially and just lay on her couch.
(Love my dad to pieces but he’s always traveling and I’ve accepted that he’s just not as checked into our relationship as my mom is)
Yesterday, my mom called me and told me her fiancé has recd a great job offer 9 hrs away in Wisconsin. although I’m happy for them both/my logical brain says to put a smile on and not think so much about myself, I can’t help but feel completely grief-stricken and quite honestly angry.
Mom called me today to tell me all about the great houses they saw, the great people they’re meeting etc and I took it with a smile on my face like I typically do, but tonight I did something totally out of character and just got drunk. Got drunk last night too. I feel pretty good until I get into bed but begin sobbing not too soon after.
There’s a lot more to the story so I promise I’m not just overly dramatic, but I’m so tired of swallowing my own feelings so that everyone else can scatter and do their own things. I just want my family, I miss my mom, I want to go home but at this point I am yearning for a pipe dream and feel as though I keep losing my sense of “home”.
