X-T3 Repair worth it?

2023.04.01 13:12 Ric0chet_ X-T3 Repair worth it?

Hey, I'm in a situation I thought I'd ask what you would do.
My beloved X-T3 I've had since 2018 and purchased for $1,919 AUD. I've shot weddings and commercial food with it, its been well loved and a few scars to show it.
A while ago card slot 1 stopped working, but I pushed on and used slot 2 in overflow only. I knew that it would be a board replacement likely being a major component. And then the internal battery on the board would no longer hold charge meaning the camera hard reset every time I change the battery. Custom settings/looks/the lot. I sent it off to Fujifilm Australia for a free quote
$680 AUD to repair, main board replacement and 2 hours labor. I'm fine with that its realistic, but is it worth it for an XT-3? I'm likely going to upgrade to an X-H2s or similar coming up but do I fix this as a backup camera? It will likely only be worth $800-1000 in a year or two anyway

What is the difference between air-cooled and water-cooled laser welders? What are the advantages?
The air-cooled laser welding machine is based on the laser welding technology and derived from the equipment, the initial goal is to meet the needs of outdoor laser welding, while solving the water-cooled laser welding machine bulky and inconvenient to move the problem. This article will describe in detail the difference between air-cooled and water-cooled, so that we understand the advantages of air-cooled laser welding machine.

https://preview.redd.it/qt7hndi8w8ra1.jpg?width=1920&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1fa759bb3675eb3f654b293f191fc141e9fcf67b
The composition of the air-cooled laser welding machine
Laser welding machine's core accessories are: laser, cooling equipment, welding joints. Different from the conventional water-cooling equipment, air-cooled welding machine is the use of air-cooled cooling equipment, through air cooling, ensure the temperature stability of laser welding machine. Of course, because the cooling efficiency of air-cooled equipment is not very high, so the air-cooled laser welding machine laser power will not be very large, mostly 1000 watts and 1500 watts of equipment. Second, the advantages of air-cooled laser welding machine
Air-cooled laser welding machine because of small size, light weight, can meet the outdoor work, can be placed in the trunk of the car, mobile at any time, to meet the needs of outdoor laser welding. And only need 220V power supply, you can work directly. And is the use of air-cooled cooling equipment to solve the water-cooling equipment in the water-cooled welding machine need to replace the pure water and antifreeze problem. Greatly reduce the content of maintenance.
The future of air-cooled welding machine
Air-cooled welding machine based on laser technology, with beautiful welding, high efficiency, quick hand characteristics, so it can be understood as the trend of the future, but thought that the laser welding machine because of the problem of large size, can not be popularized to the outdoor work, outdoor welding with more welding, argon arc welding-based. Believe that now have air-cooled welding machine, can be a perfect solution to this problem, so that laser welding technology can be popular outdoor.

2023.04.01 11:34 zarino Club Lloyds to offer 12 month Disney+ subscription as free ‘lifestyle benefit’ from 1st May

For those who don’t know, Lloyds Bank offers one or more free ‘lifestyle benefits’ with their Club Lloyds current accounts – and this week they announced they’re replacing the (unpopular, I gather) “12 movie rentals from Rakuten TV” option with 12 months of free Disney+ access instead:
https://www.lloydsbankinggroup.com/media/press-releases/2023/lloyds-bank-2023/disney-plus-joins-club-lloyds-lifestyle-benefits.html
The press release says the Disney+ option becomes available 1st April (today), but the email they sent me this morning, and the Club Lloyds website, both say 1st May.
This may be handy for anyone who switched to Club Lloyds for the £200 switching bonus at the start of March, but hasn’t chosen their free ‘lifestyle benefit’ yet. Note, however, “If you do this more than 30 days after you open or upgrade your account you will receive you Lifestyle Benefit on a pro-rata basis.” (Wording taken from an email Lloyds just sent me, including, weirdly, the “you Lifestyle Benefit” typo!)
Still, nice to see such a popular streaming service added as an option, for those who don’t need the chain restaurant discount, free cinema tickets, or magazine subscription.
Remember, Club Lloyds accounts come with a £3/mth fee, though this is waived if you deposit £2000/mth into the account. If you want to earn interest on the account (1.5% AER on the first £4000 of your balance, 3% AER on the next £1000) you’ll need to pay out at least 2 direct debits each month.

2023.04.01 09:26 withoutme6767 Special Assessment. PLEASE READ AND HELP ME!

San Diego, California.
California is issuing a state law regarding SB326 balcony repairs and/or complete replacement of all condo/apartment balconies.
Long story short, in September of 2022, Our property management team notified us that they were sending out a 3rd party contractor to inspect all of our balconies. Five days later, we were told that all of our balconies needed to either be repaired or have a complete replacement and that our homes would all be condemned until all issues were fixed and went through a second final inspection of state law passing. We were told that California requires this SB326 to be completed by 2025.
In October of 2022, we all had a community meeting about how we would cover the project, totaling $450k. We needed clarification about how they came up with that number when ONLY 3 of the 66 unit balconies were inspected. According to our property management, three balconies must be RED ZONED to condemn the whole complex. OKAY....? So then we start discussing a special assessment for each unit contribution as we have ZERO reserve funds to help cover this cost. For HOURS, literal HOURS, we were told that the property insurance would not cover it due to the issues being "homeowner neglect," and all the burden of this project was solely placed on all the homeowners, and there was nothing we could do about it. OKKKKAAAYYY..... how do they come up with homeowner neglect when only three balconies were assessed? How do you even neglect your balcony? It's made out of concrete, Steele, and stucco. To this day, I still can't get the answer to those questions.
November 2022 meeting: The HOA board and our PM decided that this project absolutely needs to be done in the next six months. One of our board members is trying to sell her unit and can't because it's condemned. It was addressed that our monthly fees for the six months would triple to about $1,800/month, which is more than everyone's mortgage! I swear, it was like oil and vinegar in this meeting, us against them and them against us. What makes everything worse is that our last special assessment that everyone paid for has yet to be scheduled or completed...it's been nine months. Complete chaos for the next couple of months.
January 2023: a voting ballot went out to the homeowners regarding the project completion of six months with a $1,800 monthly due. So many of us had questions, concerns, and worries due to the lack of information surrounding the project, its bids, and quotes. What needed to be fixed for individual units? Who the third-party contractor is and where they came from, what does the $63k in contingency mean, and where will it go? The biggest worry is that 90% of our community can't afford an additional $1800, next to everything else, just because one board member wants to sell her unit sooner rather than later. In the month, we, as a community, decided not to vote based on the lack of information surrounding this project and its finances, which was discussed in our monthly community meeting during this time. We were told that if we neglected to vote, the project would be in favor, and we would be issued liens on our units.
February 28th, 2023, We we told that all those votes were in, 51% ruled in favor, and the contractor was hired immediately. The first payment of $1,800 was due March 1st, 2023. People were floored, upset, and worried. No one could understand the majority of the voting going to a six-month project when no one could afford to do it in six months, let alone come up with the first payment 24hrs. It was advised that we should pay the entire project upfront to avoid any late fees or potential "intent to lien" fees.
March 2023: An emergency HOA meeting was held due to the extreme volume of harsh emails, phone calls, and texts to our property management representative. She advised us to speak with our own homeowner's insurance to see if we have "loss assessment" coverage to help us with this particular assessment. Luckily for the majority of the community, 80% of us hold loss assessments to our individual homeowner policy. My husband and I filed, our neighbors filed, and even our resident board members filed.
This week our homeowner's insurance told us that our claim was denied due to the lack of information from our property management and that our PM representative responded with, "the state is issuing the community project, and it has been determined that all balcony repairs or reconstruction is due to homeowner neglect." Our insurance rep informed us that she also had to give the unfortunate news to 10 other homeowners in our community that also purchase with the same insurance company. She also said that Property management companies will do and say these things to save them from any financial obligations and/or liability. So she suggested we seek legal representation.
Yesterday I paid $1000 towards our dues, and today I received a $100 charge for intent to lien.
I don't know what to do; please help me!

2023.04.01 05:58 Doofutz Replacement IGU?

Double pane panel above sink is fogged and outer pane is cracked. Roughly 35x44 inches, .75 thick total. First quote to have a glass place remove and replace glass - not the window - was $1550 (fu price?). Second quote for glass only was over $1000! Wtf? Mid-80 's aluminum window and I'm trying to squeeze a few more years out of it before total kitchen remodel. Local energy company says they make them but won't install to aluminum window.
Where to turn? I just wanna see the squirrels while doing dishes.

2023.04.01 05:23 yolo_brick_bowl It feels like Synology has left me behind

Warning: This one is going to ramble.
I feel like Synology has left me behind. I have a 10 year old 1813+. It's SHR, and I've added/replaced new drives over the years. I have a mixture of drive sizes at different ages. I have absolutely loved this device.
The new 8-bay NAS is finally out. But it's an xs+ or whatever and is meant for enterprise users, I suppose. This new NAS is about twice the price of the one I bought 10 years ago, tries to foist Synology branded drives and ram sticks (at an elevated cost) onto you, and (here's the kicker) doesn't even support SHR any longer. I know I could migrate my drives over to the new unit and 'inherit' the SHR volume that way, but it doesn't support the creation of new SHR volumes.
And I sort of understand. This whole time I thought the software stack offered was crazy for 'free'. I have honestly hoped/wanted them to come out with a monthly/yearly fee for the software updates just so they could foster a financially healthy software business for themselves and keep the updates coming. But no, they've double downed on the "make money from hardware only" idea and are simply coming up with new ways to charge more and more money for that instead.
So, I hate the lack of SHR. I hate the nag messages if I use a non-synology drive (the whole point of a NAS is to accurately and completely report on the status/state of the drives, after all).
But most of all, I hate the idea that I'm no longer getting security updates for my device. This is a problem, and my hand is forced.
So I had an idea. What, really, do I use that needs internet access 24/7 on my NAS? Not much. Of all the 'stuff' on there, 99%+ is both written and read by local network devices only. My only real reason for leaving the NAS open to the internet at large is Synology Photos.
Synology-stinking-Photos.
But that's ok! Because I can buy a cheap $150 2-bay NAS. I could get a couple 20TB hard drives and replace my oldest smallest drives in the 1813+. I could take those older drives and place them in the brand new 2-bay NAS. And, voila! I have a new unit that can be internet facing, receive security updates, and be focused on Synology Photos as a reason for being. And even with two older drives (smaller capacities) in a mirrored setup, that would still be more than enough room for my photos for at least the next decade. I could then block off my old 1813 from the internet and only leave it accessible locally. Not a perfect solution to compensate for a lack of security updates, but it's better than leaving it internet connected, for sure.
I was jazzed and almost pulled the trigger on the new NAS and 2 new 20TB disks. But then I had a nagging thought. And I googled. I mean, surely, I could migrate the Synology Photos data from the 1813+ to the new 2-bay when it arrived. Right? There's no way Synology would make a product like Photos, encourage you spend a LOT of time organizing and setting things up inside of it, and NOT have a method for migrating all of that to new hardware in one fell swoop.
Yeah. No. Some folks make claims that one can maybe accomplish *something* with Hyper Backup, but I'm not dropping close to a $1000 to fart around with it just to see if I can get that to work.
How can that be? How can Synology leave that piece out!? It, in my mind, it completely invalidates Synology Photos as a product at all. After all, why spend a second organizing anything inside of it without a well-developed and rock-solid migration path to newer hardware? I'm a dumb-ass for not checking into this before ever using the thing in the first place.
So, I'm dejected. Any reason I ever had for using Synology stuff (and I've told everyone I know they should be buying and using these for a decade now), seems to have gone by the wayside.
I'm left with these thoughts this evening:
sigh

2023.04.01 03:51 akilanon Replacing a 2009 Macbook Pro - need help with non-Apple suggestions please?

Hi all! First post so might be a bit wordy lol.
I currently own a 2009 MacBook (gifted in 2015). Finally at the point where I can afford a decent replacement, but having difficulty navigating all the available options. While I'm not a tech person, I tried doing my own research, but only got as far as SSD for the hard drive, 32 GB RAM and 1 TB storage if I can afford it, and at least one HDMI port to hook to a monitor. No preference on brand, happy to go with custom built, mostly just want something that I can upgrade parts when needed to extend the lifetime to around 6-8 years. (IE, if I'm spending this much, I don't want to be back at square one in 3 years.)
Usage: medium-heavy business use, not gaming, but may be running 3-5 programs at once.
Not picky on weight or screen size, maybe not more than 5 lbs. or smaller than 13".
Budget $1000 - $1600 (soft limit)
Happy to edit this post if there are preferences I should add, I've checked out avadirect and cgdirector but don't know enough to accurately judge the individual specs! :-(

2023.04.01 03:46 Unique-Sir-6098 [MI] I Suspect My Applications May Be Being Filtered Due To Changes On My Linkedin Profile, Can You Confirm?

I suspect a change to my linkedin profile is causing my easy apply applications to be filtered.
I recently finished another college class and updated my linkedin. I had been getting 5-10 recruiters a day calling / emailing me in december.
Then I updated my college from a community college from 2007-2010, then a university from 2010-2013 where I earned my ba.
I updated it to add the software engineering classes I have been taking while working. I put the range at the community college from 2007-2022. In the description I explained that I take a software engineering class every few years for fun.
All of a sudden I went from getting recruiters reaching out to not a single of about 1000 job applications responding. I am still employed for the moment, but, the new boss is cleaning out the department and replacing people with his friends one by one.
Could I be getting filtered by bots due to change in the college status, putting 2007-2022 for the community college? I use mostly Linkedin Easy apply. If it isn't that, what else could it be?

2023.04.01 02:51 DevyMcDevFace112233 Budget sanity check (am I overspending?)

I want to get some feedback on my financial situation and see what people think. If you need more info I will add or can make a new post. I’m in my late 20s.
Overall last year was an expensive year with paying for a small wedding, a couple of trips, and an improvement to the kitchen in my flat (here the tenant is responsible for this). With gifts we managed to brake even on the wedding and honeymoon cost. I still managed to build up my e-fund to a good level last year ($5000+) plus I have an additional $15000 in I-bonds. My only debt is student loans ($20000) which are currently on pause and may be forgiven. Now I have reworked my budget for 2023 since there are far fewer “big costs” (like wedding) to prepare for so I can go back to saving. Just want to see what others think and if it’s all in proportion.
Rough monthly income (total = $3600): + Net paycheck = 3000 (already includes health insurance and some mandatory state pension contribution) + Additional monthly income = 600
Rough expenses (needs = 1620): - Rent including utilities = 800 - Groceries for two people = 400 - Cell phone = 30 - Local public transport = 50 - Fuel for car = 100 - Additional insurances = 115 - Budget for medical costs = 25 - Buffer misc. costs = 100
Rough savings budget (1200): - Building up efund/savings = 1000 - Car replacement budget = 120
Rough wants budget (825): - couples holiday = 150 - solo holiday = 200 - hobbies = 150 (ie scuba diving) - eating out = 150 - fun money = 100 - clothing = 50 - gym membership = 25
Currently I am the main earner and tend to cover most of the “living cost” expenses (rent, food, etc).
Where I tend to overspend is taking a holiday for scuba and it being more expensive than planned, or wanting to take more scuba holidays in the year than I can afford. I also think about how for savings I actually have 1000/month “extra” in my budget which I could put to a holiday if needed. This is more of a mindset problem. I still lack some discipline. Maybe there are some items missing. A part of me definitely doesn’t want to reduce the budget for “fun money” but the most important is to have a realistic and honest overview and then go from there.
I have been in my job for several years and I’m paid below market. So that’s something I want to change by the end of this year. I want to put the 1000/month to the efund and have around 10000 there by the time I change my job. Then I can go forward with investing, etc.
But in general it’s hard to get a sense of what is a fair amount to spend. I try to cook most of the meals at home (making use of that kitchen!) and bring leftovers with me to work). Unfortunately most of my hobbies are pretty expensive but that’s also part of me enjoying my life so I try to make it work. Really glad for any feedback!

I'm looking for any answers before I start replacing components as I am at a loss at what this intermittent issue could be.
The issue is described as follows: every once in awhile (i.e. not every time), after a cold boot the PC will restart itself before it even POSTS. The action will go like this: press power button -> turns on, everything appears normal (fans spin, rgb lights up and debug leds go through the cycle of components) -> it then suddenly turns off then on again and boots into windows. Everything works fine when past this issue.
I've ran the following tests in order to try and rule out any components:
  1. Memtest86: no errors.
  2. OCCT PSU test: no errors / shutdowns.
  3. OCCT Memory test: no errors.
  4. OCCT GPU test: no errors.
  5. Prime 95: no errors.
  6. Heavy gaming for multiple hours in battlefield 2042 and other games such as days gone, god of war, no errors...
I've attempted to:
  1. Check all power connectors (psu side, and motherboard)
  2. reseat ram.
  3. Inspected the power button of the case, but it's barely visible and it seems to be functioning correctly.
  4. Attempt to re-create the issue but it seems to happen seemingly at random boots.
One thing to note, was that I have had this setup in a different case previously, (o11 dynamic evo) and I don't remember facing this issue in that case. So it's possible there is something shorting on the motherboard or the power button is not functioning correctly.
I'm kind of at a loss, on what this issue could possibly be. Some of my thoughts going forward on which components to attempt to replace:
  1. Attempt to replace the PSU first. This should rule out that issue.
  2. You may have noticed the ram speed is quite fast (6600 mhz, it's on motherboards QVL), It's possible when a cold boot occurs it's retraining it and fails? So replace ram.
  3. Replace case.
I'm kind of reluctant to replace ram first and it passed my two usual tests that would error out on faulty ram (memtest86 and prime95) - however it does like it could be a memory issue.
Any feedback on what else it could be?

2023.04.01 00:42 Jarbus4 Premium Pass Giveaway for U149 Anime!

This year's subreddit April Fools will be a little different, as I didn't have the time to go all out with the CSS like I usually do. This is one of my favorite days of the year, so I still wanted to do something and I figured this would be a good replacement considering the timing of the anime release! The real prize will be ¥1000, which will be sent in whatever form works best for the winner (gift card, DMM points, PayPal, etc.). I just didn't want to attract too many people from outside of this game by putting a monetary reward in the title, you may use it on whatever you'd like.

Rules

Since this is meant for this subreddit, there will be two game-dependent aspects of your participation:
  • First, there's a Google Form below which you will use to privately share your Reddit username and a screen shot of your profile (only I and possibly other mods will see this).
  • Once you've filled that out, comment a screen shot of anything U149 (or LMBG) related from your account under this post, whether it's an MV screen shot, a card of an idol, a 3D preview of an idol, anything really.
Completing both of these before the deadline will make you eligible for the prize*! Assume that if you don't hear from me, you did everything correctly. I'll only reach out if something is missing.
* As further verification, you will also need to have either a 3 month old Reddit account or have reached at least PLv. 50.
A week from now (April 8th, 2023 15:00JST), a winner will be randomly chosen and announced in The Break Room. I'll also reply to their comment and directly message them to coordinate sending over the prize. Not that I expect anything to happen, but please check to make sure it's Jarbus4 messaging you, I'd hate for anyone's information to get in the wrong hands by someone impersonating the subreddit or me.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment below or PM me. I also did do some CSS stuff if you want to check out Old Reddit. Good luck, and a friendly reminder that the U149 anime starts on April 5th!

Fill out this form to complete Part 1

2023.04.01 00:15 YashaAstora Are six cores enough for modern games, or should I try to stretch for 8 at least?

I need to replace my aging 2012 rig (as I said in a previous post I made here) and several people suggested various CPUs for me. Unfortunately, my current budget of about 1000 bucks means I'm probably stick with either a six-core Ryzen, or a six-core Intel. After examining, I'm currently leaning for the i5-12600K, which is listed on PC Part Picker as a 10-core, but apparently only six of those cores are standard ones games will use, and four of them are weaker cores that are meant for multitasking. So, from a gaming perspective, that CPU has effectively six cores.
With the new consoles having 8-core CPUs, I'm wondering if six cores will really hang. I know that its rare for games to use all your cores, but with the recent TLOU port sucking up 16 threads like it's nothing, I'm definitely hesitant. And yes, that port is a big ol' mess, but it makes sense a PS5 game would use 16 threads.

2023.03.31 23:45 yellowtangerine5 Is this fixable without replacing doors?

Is this fixable without replacing doors?
Insurance deductible is $1000, I was wondering if this could be fixed for less than that without replacing doors. The panels are plastic and you can see it is cracked through on the front passenger side. The back passenger side is a scratch/dent combo. Just want to know the best path forward. Thanks all.
