I'm relatively new to Toyota... but quickly becoming a big fan.
I'd love some opinions on the one that I want (see title).
What concerns me, is that the one I'm interested in has just had the following work done to it @ 173k mi.:
Rebuilt transmission
Head gaskets replaced
Timing chain replaced
Resurfaced heads
Valvecover gaskets replaced
The exterior & interior are immaculate. Should I be happy that this work has been done, as in I'm getting value from the new/rebuilt parts... or is this work indicative of something terrible going on w the car (i.e. cooling system, or a driver who's driven it too hard). Like I said, inside & outside it's very clean.
Would love some advice, thank you.
Edit: this is the 1ZZ-FE engine

Title. I'm looking to buy a replacement carpet but only found for the Mirage coupe 1993-1996, and for '99 I was only able to find for the Eclipse and 3000GT models.

2023.03.31 19:51 PivotalPosture Bought Car, Sold Wrong Paint Protection Package

I bought a new car in February & agreed to the $699 paint & interior protection package.
I came home, realized they accidentally sold me the $1499 paint package in the finance documents. I have a paper showing my OTD price with the $699 package & what I agreed to with the salesman.
I emailed the financial manager & he apologized for the mixup & agreed that there was a mistake made. He emailed me over a form a week later to sign to cancel the warranty.
It has been two weeks, followed up, and he said that it takes some time & will keep me in the loop.
Do these things take this long or is this something I should escalate? I waited to leave the dealership a review to see how this pans out. Either way, this is $600+ that I didn’t agree to.
On top of this, I have a ‘free oil change’ through that dealer, but service won’t answer, and it won’t let me schedule online. I called sales & they said they’re probably booked. Is scheduling an oil change a week in advanced too soon? I am moving next week, so I’ll probably have to use the Toyota provided oil changes & miss out on that one.

2023.03.31 18:23 Intelligent-Ad2336 Financing new SUV for leisure

Looking into purchasing a car on finance. I make about ~160K a year (sometimes more depending on my company RSUs and market conditions) with 0 debt and a sizeable amount of savings in my TFSA and RRSP. Always max out my RRSP with employer contribution matching.
I’m interested in either a new Subaru Forester Wilderness or Toyota 4Runner.
I like these two cars because of they’re capable of going off road, they’re super reliable, and they seem to hold their value well. I plan to keep the car for a while so the last two points matter lots to me. The first point is important but I am looking for a vehicle that enables me to adventure more. I enjoy camping, hiking, and generally all outdoor activities. So, my plan is to build a lifestyle around what adventures such a car could enable (over landing, etc).
I don’t have much liquid cash (~5K) but could save up more pretty quickly. Ideally, I’d like to have a car come summer for obvious regions.
Any tips on what to consider, avoid, etc here would be greatly appreciated. Don’t have anyone in my family to turn to for advice and this is my first time making a large purchase besides my degree.

2023.03.31 15:20 all2neat Interior lights don’t turn on when door is open

I have a 2017 Sienna and I was hoping someone could sanity check my thought process here.
The interior lights in the center and rear rows won’t turn on when you open the door or flip the master switch to on. The lights in the front row do turn on. The van has on, door, and off on the switch on the front center ceiling area and it’s set to door. If you flip it to on the same behavior, front row turns on, middle and back row do not.
Oddly enough it if your turn on the individual lights (click press them in) they will turn on. That rules out light bulb problems and I would think fuse. Also, if you turn on all the lights manually the master switch will turn them off.
We do have a factory DVD system, it does power on, sometimes randomly on its own.
The van has 97,000 miles.
2 weeks ago my wife was out of town with the van and the check engine light came on. She found a Toyota dealer who replaced her fuel injector. She noticed that night the lights weren’t working and didn’t mention it until she got back home 🤐.
A couple days after she got home I noticed coolant was leaking which ended up being the water pump so I repaired it.
I’m thinking either bad switch, bad wire, or something with the dvd system but I can’t get past the timing of the fuel injector replacement, is there anything in that area of the engine that might have been damaged that would be related?

2023.03.31 10:53 AGuyCalledMe Used Car Mould on Seat Belt

I went to view a 2019 reg Toyota Yaris earlier in the week. The exterior was immaculate, no scratches or curbing. Some minor cosmetic scratches on the interior.
I did however notice a small amount of mould on the drivers seatbelt.
I understand the car has potentially been stood for 6 months and a quick check of the carpet didn't feel damp.
Is this likely just down to the car being unused?

2023.03.31 08:46 Ok_Echidna_99 Center differential 4th gen vs 5th gen?

So my 4th gen SR5 with part time 2WD/4WD has a locking center diff. There's a button. It shows an X on the drive shaft. Apparently all 4th gen 4WD 4Runners have Torsen center diffs which are lockable on some models as an option.
However I keep reading that that 5th generation part time 2WD4WD doesn't use a center diff and 4WD is essentially permanently connected 50/50 making it not suitable for dry pavement driving and imo somewhat dubious for bad weather freeway driving in general.
Is this correct? Did Toyota drop the center diff from the 5th gen except for the full time 4WD Limited?
It's odd that I can find virtually no discussion of the this since it seems like to would have been a controversial change.

3rd Gen 4Runner Catalytic Converter stolen - advice needed
Car is a 2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6 3.4L
Apologies in advance for the longish post, and any wrong terminology, I am new to working on cars and while I do my best to be knowledgeable, I am still learning, and I have a lot to learn.
Context: I haven’t driven my car in just under 2 weeks, as my boyfriend’s car is significantly better on gas, and we ride to work together anyways. Car was sitting in my apartment’s parking lot in the same spot the whole time. I’m pretty certain that’s why this happened. I live in an okay area, not great but not bad. I discovered something was wrong after we decided to take my car since I had more gas and we couldn’t afford to fill his car. I started my car up and was immediately startled and for a moment wondered if I had somehow gotten into the wrong car, because my normally pretty quiet car sounded like a diesel engine being cold started in the dead of winter. We were already running late so I couldn’t do anything at that moment. I looked under my car immediately after getting back. I also feel that I should mention here I have only had my car back for a month after it was in the shop for a couple weeks, and I had to spend the entirety of my only savings on said repairs. I am paycheck to paycheck right now and for the foreseeable future. I have been trying to improve my financial situation but with my car in and out of the shop and no way of buying a new car, that hasn’t been much of an option.
They cut my exhaust from just past (what I assume is) the 1st O2 sensor, quite literally all the way to what I believe is my muffler. The catalytic converter is gone, and based on the cut wires I’m assuming 3 of the 4 O2 sensors are gone as well. And the exhaust pipe through that area.
I’m here because I don’t know what to do from here. I need suggestions or guidance on what to do. I don’t know if it’s a good idea or okay to drive it in it’s current condition. I don’t know if a temporary fix Is possible or sustainable, or what that fix would look like? I need to know if there's a way to fix it just to the point of bare minimum buying me time to get a permanent fix in place. To my understanding the catalytic converter is not essential to the actual function of my car, but is still important. I am essentially looking for the cheapest and at least temporarily most sustainable fix until I can afford and am able to actually fix it correctly. I am lost and confused and I would appreciate any guidance or suggestions y'all may have.
I tried to attach photos of where it was cut, I will post the videos of the underside and what it sounds like on my account and try to link the post in the comments.

2023.03.30 22:04 plumbuckit Alternatives to a Tacoma but better MPG?

I have a beater pickup truck with a single cab and full sized bed and a small crossover SUV that I want to trade in for one vehicle. I use the truck bed around every other month to haul furniture, wood, random junk, trash, etc and find it super useful. I used to use the bed weekly to haul my bicycles but due to some health issues I don’t ride much anymore but hopefully will again in the future. I love throwing the bikes in the back, for some reason I hate using bike racks lol.
I love the truck for the height and utility of the bed (it’s so nice to not be worried about making the interior dirty) but it’s getting old and needs repairs more often and I don’t have the time to take it to the shop all the time.
The crossover is still pretty reliable but underpowered and for some reason it has awful sealing and the sound of the wind drives everyone crazy on trips longer than an hour. So for road trips, I usually take my truck, despite the atrocious MPG. It’s surprisingly a much nicer ride than the crossover.
I do like the crossover for trips around the city but I’m getting sick of having two cars. I absolutely LOVE the Toyota Tacoma and always have but the MPG is almost as bad as my full sized truck. I’m a little concerned about that since I take a lot of road trips. However, I am used to expensive fill ups.
I would like 4wd for snowy mountains and for dirt roads. I think it reduces mileage though? I would love something with a bed because I hate putting dirty or bulky stuff inside the car itself but I think I have to compromise on that if I want better MPG. I don’t have kids and don’t plan on having any so I don’t care if the backseats are roomy or comfortable because I use it for storage most of the time, but I would love a car that has a big trunk and fold flat seats to replace some of the utility of the truck bed. I do need something that fits 4 adults though because my parents need somewhere to sit when they visit.
I don’t know much about cars, but so far I’ve been looking at the Tacoma, RAV4, Venza and am curious about the Subaru Outback. My budget is 40k before taxes and I’ve only ever driven Japanese vehicles with the exception of my truck and would like to stick to extremely reliable brands.
I want a car that I can get within the next couple of months, and I plan to buy new. Let me know if y’all have any suggestions on models to check out!

2023.03.30 19:44 Felesbandi 2019 Mazda 3 or 2020 Corolla?

Hey all,
I'm currently looking for a newish car to buy and my two candidates are a 2019 Mazda 3 and a 2020 Toyota Corolla.
From what I've heard, the Corolla can be loud on the highway because of wind noise, which is a mayor issue with my current car (2006 Suzuki SX4), but it also looks better on the outside than the Mazda IMO. On the flip side I prefer the Mazda interior. I'm looking at the sedan versions btw.
So I'm a bit torn between the two of them. Any recommendations or experiences to help me decide?

I am interested in a white xle with chateau interior. However, most of the inventory I see is gray with graphite interior.
