2023.04.01 12:51 SlapTrap69 Spiciness doesn't have an actual flavor beyond "pain".

And people who brag about enjoying really spicy food are only doing it to show how "tough" they are or how good they are at eating foods from different cultures.
It could be personal taste, but I fail to see how making my mouth hurt improves any eating experience. There is no added flavor. It's just masochism in food form.

2023.04.01 12:38 Workhardgymharder What film from each of the last 10 decades (1930’s-2020s) have you seen most recently?

Mine have been…
Godzilla vs Kong (2021) - First time rewatching this since seeing it in the cinema when it came out. I initially gave it 4 stars, but on rewatch have dropped it to a high 3.5 stars. What’s not to love about big titans fighting?!
La La Land (2016) - Been on my watchlist for years but I kept putting it off because I’m really not a fan of Ryan Gosling and musicals are not a favourite genre of mine. In the end my enjoyment of Whiplash and the fact I like Emma Stone convinced me to finally give it a go. The result: not really my cup of tea. Nice scenery but I just found the overall plot and the songs very bland. 2.5 stars.
Battle Royale (2000) - I loved the over the top violence. A fun movie but it loses steam towards the end. 3.5 stars.
Léon: The Professional (1994) - Possibly my favourite performance by Natalie Portman. 3.5 stars
Stand By Me (1986) - A surprisingly moving film with a terrific young cast. 4 stars.
The French Connection (1971) - I thought I’d enjoy this more than I did but I found it fairly boring. Great car chase though. 2.5 stars.
To Kill a Mockingbird (1962) - Finally sat down to watch this film and wow. I can see why it is a classic. Amazing performances from all, particularly Gregory Peck. 4 stars.
Witness for the Prosecution (1957) - Fantastic, I can see why it’s in the top 250 Narrative Feature Films. The film was completely gripping with witty, well acted characters and a superb script. I doubt anyone could have predicted exactly every detail of what was going to happen. 4.5 stars. Billy Wilder is a genius.
It’s a Wonderful Life (1946) - 4 stars for this delightful classic. One of those films I naively put off because ‘surely it’ll be a yawnfest’…. how wrong I was.
The Lady Vanishes (1938) - After Psycho this is my favourite Hitcock film (so far, I still have plenty more to watch). Funny but still full of suspense. 4 stars.
What were yours? Of your 10, what ones would you strongly encourage others to watch?

2023.04.01 12:35 DaRealJakub I’m confused about this

I’m confused about this
In the first pick, you can see how in stats tab, at the end of march my minutes listened to have dipped massively compared to the picture on the right. If you look at the charts, the rest of the charts are identical in terms of minutes listened to, so why are the minute’s different depending on what section i look at it from? Is this something i should be worried about?

2023.04.01 12:24 marcosscriven Considering a Bambu X1 Carbon - can it be made to run quieter (even if slower), and how frequent are warped beds?

Per title, thinking of getting an X1 Carbon + AMS (coming from a Prusa Mk3s).
I mainly want the AMS for easy filament swaps, and multi-colour just on top/bottom layers for text/logos etc.
I'm wondering if there's a mode to run everything slower (down to Prusa Mk3 speeds) that makes it much quieter? Generally I'm happy to run fastelouder, but occasionally I'll need to be in the same room.
Also, I'm concerned about the number of posts I'm seeing about warped beds - I know ABL can compensate, but a lot of my usage is functional prints that I need to be straight.
Any ideas how prevalent this is?

2023.04.01 12:22 danielkim21 Could late Eastern Conference matchups help determine MVP?

Everyone was on Embiid’s head for ducking Jokic in Denver, but Jokic has sat out the past couple games. With that being said, Denver is awful without him, showing how much of an impact he has on the team. He is obviously a unicorn and has a good shot at taking the award again, but I just get the feeling voters don’t want to see him win another MVP. Maybe I’m wrong and will eat my words… but let’s go over the current Eastern Conference contenders in case I’m right.
Giannis had a “rough” game against Boston but I feel like if he outplays Embiid and gets the win against Philly on Saturday then he could narrow the gap on the MVP race. Light 40+ Triple Double against Indiana earlier this week, and will get the chance to play against Embiid, an arguable favorite to win MVP and also on national TV against a solid Grizzlies team on the road. He’ll have to take care of some tougher teams, but if they manage to win out Bucks should hang on to the 1 seed. No doubt the best player in the league and has great numbers to go with it, I think you can make the argument for him to take MVP virtually any year. Similar deal, however, to Lebron in the past in my opinion… will remain the best player in the league while not winning MVP every year.
Embiid gets to go to Milwaukee with the chance to keep 76ers in contention for taking the 2 seed from Boston. Even if they lose, he has been a consistent 30pt+ double double and will also get another chance to play the Celtics in Philly. However, if the 76ers lose both of these games, would Embiid’s MVP chances take a hit even if he goes for 30-40 points with 10+ rbs in these games? Would go 0-4 against Boston/2-2 against Bucks in the year. Still, you don’t ever see bigs winning the scoring title, and Embiid’s offensive game has continued to improve through the years. Also, while Embiid may not be dropping consistent triple doubles, it is clear to see that he has been the most dominant player this year. (Even though he lives on the free throw line, you can’t deny Giannis and Jokic get the whistle more often than they should).
*Brings me to a pointer for Tatum…. 79 points in past 7 quarters to go 2-1 against Milwaukee, no turnovers and insane efficiency. Just a thought, is there any situation where Tatum jumps back into the MVP discussion this late in the season? While it would be a wild scenario, what if Tatum somehow maintains his restored offensive scoring while winning out and taking back the 1 seed? Call me stupid, but I’d say there is a slim (really slim) chance he could get back in the discussion, but it would take an insane run on both his part and Boston. I feel like 35+ pts/10 rbs would have to be the minimum. Regardless, Tatum’s growth has been remarkable and even though he probably won’t be a top 3 MVP finalist, it would say a lot if he continues to pour it on and help Boston take back the 1 seed. (Would also go 4-0 against Philly in regular season).
Looking for unbiased feedback on my thoughts!

2023.04.01 12:20 qi7q7 What is SuiDex?

SuiDex: A Safe and Decentralized Way to Swap Tokens on the SUI Blockchain
SuiDex is one of the latest AMMs (Automated Market Makers) on the SUI blockchain, offering users a secure and decentralized way to swap tokens. In this article, we will explore what SuiDex is, how it works, and why you should try it out.

What is SuiDex?
SuiDex is a decentralized exchange (DEX) that allows users to swap any tokens on the SUI blockchain without intermediaries or custodians. SuiDex uses smart contracts written in MOVE language, which ensures that the exchange logic is immutable and verifiable. SuiDex also leverages the LiquidSwap protocol, which provides stable and efficient swapping of relevant assets.

How does SuiDex work?
SuiDex works by creating liquidity pools for each pair of tokens that users want to swap. A liquidity pool is a collection of tokens that are locked in a smart contract and provide liquidity for the exchange. Users who provide liquidity to a pool are called liquidity providers (LPs), and they earn fees from each swap that occurs in the pool.
Users who want to swap tokens can simply connect their SUI wallet to the SuiDex app and select the tokens they want to exchange. The app will show them the current exchange rate and the slippage (the difference between the expected and actual price due to market movements). Users can then confirm the swap and pay a small transaction fee in SUI tokens.

What are the benefits of using SuiDex?
SuiDex offers several advantages for users who want to swap tokens on the SUI blockchain. Some of these benefits are:
- Security: SuiDex uses smart contracts that are audited and verified, ensuring that users' funds are safe and secure. Users have full control over their tokens and do not need to trust any third parties or intermediaries.
- Decentralization: SuiDex is a fully decentralized platform that does not rely on any centralized servers or authorities. Users can access SuiDex from anywhere in the world and enjoy censorship-resistant and permissionless trading.
- Efficiency: SuiDex uses the LiquidSwap protocol, which optimizes the liquidity and efficiency of each swap. Users can enjoy fast and low-cost transactions without sacrificing stability or accuracy.
- Incentives: SuiDex rewards users who provide liquidity to the platform with fees from each swap. Users can also participate in various farming and staking programs to earn more rewards from SuiDex and its partners.

How to get started with SuiDex?
Getting started with SuiDex is easy and simple. All you need is a SUI wallet and some tokens to swap. You can follow these steps to start using SuiDex:
- Visit https://suidex.io/ and click on "Launch App".
- Connect your SUI wallet to the app. If you don't have a wallet, you can create one here: https://wallet.suinetwork.com/
- Choose the tokens you want to swap from the dropdown menus. You can also enter the amount of tokens you want to swap or receive.
- Review the exchange rate, slippage, and transaction fee. If you are satisfied, click on "Swap" and confirm the transaction in your wallet.
- Wait for the transaction to be processed and receive your swapped tokens in your wallet.

Conclusion
SuiDex is one of the first AMMs on the SUI blockchain, offering users a safe and decentralized way to swap tokens. With its smart contracts, LiquidSwap protocol, and various incentives, SuiDex is a great platform for anyone who wants to enjoy fast, low-cost, and reliable token swapping on the SUI blockchain. Be creative, be positive, and try out SuiDex today!

2023.04.01 11:42 ArtistChoice7334 Lumpectomy histology results

Hiya I finished 12 rounds of taxol and 3 of ac end of Jan and had lunpectomy to remove tnbc tumour in Feb. I had my results from lumpectomy today and I've been referred for more chemo and radiotherapy as only small pittings of necrosis. Was expecting as much as the lump seemed to grow during chemo (original ultrasound measured at 22mm but the lump removed was 51mm). No node involvement though so I'm still counting myself fortunate :) I haven't had my next course of chemo confirmed yet, did all you ladies in my circumstance go on to Cape or is it possible that it'll be more intravenous? How have you found cape compared to ac and paclitaxel? And lastly.... the doctor said I had "mostly" clear margins but where it was not, she said she couldn't possibly have removed anymore as was in my armpit. I didn't question at the time but now I'm wondering what on earth that meant... any ideas?

2023.04.01 11:32 HiggsWithBowsOn 36 [M4R] UK/Anywhere - Hot Buttered Toast (x-post)

Good morning and happy weekend!
Without blowing my own horn, I am totally killing it today!
Laundry - done; Washing up - done; House tidying - done; Food shopping - done!
all that BEFORE 10:30!! I've just stopped to have some toast (yes, I know that will make more washing up, but I've kept the hot soapy water!) and then I'm going to quickly throw the vacuum cleaner around, but then I am DONE with adult tasks for the weekend!
I've promised myself I'm then going to spend the rest of the weekend relaxing and enjoying myself but I'm not sure what EXACTLY that means. A friend recommended a new Thai restaurant that I'm going to try out tonight, but other than that my weekend is a blank slate!
This is where you, kindly internet stranger, come in. Whether you're down for a long chat; a short chat; shooting me recommendations of a great show/film/podcast to check out; asking for my recommendations of the above; geeking out about boardgames; holding me accountable to actually relax or asking me to share some of my vim and vigor and holding YOU account to get shit done this weekend - I'm here for it.
I don't mind where you are or how old you are, although always easier to talk to people within a reasonable age difference, just be willing to talk nonsense and I am sure we will get on fine.
Anyway, I need to finish this before my toast goes cold (is there anything breakfast based that is sadder than cold toast?). If you've got this far you might as well drop me a message/chat - what's the worst that could happen?

2023.04.01 11:20 Quick-Sector5595 DAE only bother to keep living because they hope in the future technology will allow them to live the way they originally wanted to live?

Specifically in my case, I've always wanted to spend my childhood in growing up in America in the 90's, and my teen years in the 2000's/maybe very early 2010's. Instead, I was born in 2005 Europe and that fact has always made me miserable
Not sure if this will ever be possible, but I hope in the future technology will allow me to restart my life from scratch as a newborn baby with no memories from my previou/current life, but I get to choose the time period where I'm born (year, decade, century, etc) and country/geographic location (continent, country, state, etc). Maybe also edit my genes to be a little less shitty
I'm not even sure how this could work. All I know is that it's the life I've always wanted to live. However many flaws growing up in 90's/2000's America may have had. I'd take those flaws over the flaws of growing up in modern Europe
As it stands now, I'll never be satisfied with how I was born. Europe isn't a bad place. I just don't like it. Just like I don't like being born after 9/11 and having to spend my childhood in the 2010's instead of my early adulthood. I've never personally liked European culture nor do I like zoomer culture or the modern 2010's/2020's way of life. I would've much rather grew up with 90's and early 2000's tech and culture, and I'm pissed I never got that opportunity
Right now, I'm not doing anything in my life. Because I can't be bothered to do anything in my life. I can't be bothered because I feel too miserable over never having the childhood and teenaged experiences I always wanted. I've been in therapy for a few years at this point, but it's doing nothing to make me feel better about my circumstances. I'm not sure if God is real, but if he is, I kinda resent him for decidingI should be born in mid 2000's Europe instead of late 80's or early 90's North America
Maybe with technology in the neasemi-far future, I'll finally get to experience the life I've always wanted...
Anyone else feel similarly to me?

2023.04.01 10:52 MoneySheepherder1191 Investigative Journaling Uncovers Government Coverup of Alien Invasion

Hey everyone! I just wanted to start this off by saying that I am fully aware of how crazy this story sounds, but I didn't know where else to share what I found. I hope that what I have to say will reach at least one person out there so that my research won't be in vain.
Well, here we go. So due to privacy and safety reasons, I won't divulge too much about my personal life, where I live, or name any specific cities. The only thing that's important to know is that I work as a freelance journalist on the East Coast of Canada, usually for smaller publications and reporting on small-town news. Conspiracy theories have always fascinated me, and over the past few years of my career, I've devoted a lot of time to looking into stories that the mainstream media wouldn't touch.
A couple of months ago, an old friend—who for privacy reasons we will call Brady— who works in agriculture in Alberta reached out to me. He told me that there were some weird things he was noticing—odd behaviour by town officials as well as foreign people walking around in suits through fields. If this doesn't ring alarm bells in your head, then I don't know what will. This piqued my interest, so I booked a flight and went to stay with him. I have to say that while this seemed like something right up my alley, initially I was sceptical that this was anything serious. So, some time later, I was looking through old government documents in the basement of an old library when I found something interesting in some old government documents. These documents had information about an event that happened in the 1970s, but most of the information had been redacted, making it mostly useless. I felt like I couldn't let this go, so I took note of the name of the person who wrote the report and went to find them, hoping that maybe they could clear up what had happened. What I found blew my mind.
After some searching, I tracked down the person, who turned out to be a woman living in a neighbouring city who was now in her late 80s (I will refer to her as Mandy). Over the course of a few visits, she revealed to me that the government had covered up an altercation with an alien species that had taken place and suppressed any evidence that could have exposed the truth to the public. When I challenged her about what she meant by "aliens,” she doubled down on her term, describing them as odd looking, humanoid creatures, averaging around 4 feet tall with a grey-tinged skintone.
I knew that this information was explosive, and so I decided to dig deeper. I spoke to other sources who had been involved in the government's response to this invasion. The aliens had come to Earth with peaceful intentions, but the government had labelled them a “foreign threat” and treated them as hostiles, taking an aggressive approach towards them. Mandy doesn't know much about what happened afterwards; all she knows is that some of these aliens were taken away in the middle of the night, and she was forced to sign an NDA to not disclose any of this information, even to family. She specifically stated that some of the agents she interacted with were a part of CSIS, but that police personnel and even some military personnel had shown up at the site. She's no longer concerned with maintaining the secret, saying that people deserve to know the truth of the matter. When I brought up some of the weird things Brady had noticed, she informed me that she was in no way surprised, stating that she had always expected an alien invasion in retaliation for what happened. As I dug deeper, I found more and more evidence of the coverup. I spoke with witnesses who had seen the aliens and discovered images and videos that the town council had helped the government conceal. I knew that this was a huge risk in exposing the government's secrets, but I also knew that it was worth it to uncover the truth. Although I had always been interested in conspiracy theories, I could never have predicted that I would one day discover such a massive coverup.
I knew that this was a story that needed to be told, but I also knew that the government would do everything in its power to silence me. I've tried pitching this story to every news publication I could, but they all turned me away, either completely disregarding my story as the plot to a bad film or making vague remarks about not wanting to agitate any government bodies. I've tried publishing it online on my personal blog out of desperation, and within hours, I was contacted by government agents who demanded that I take down the article. I've refused to back down but am honestly worried for my life. I'm considering packing up and leaving the country, as I'm sure that I'm being monitored. I'm unsure as to what this post will result in, but I felt like this was important enough to report on.
I will try to update this post if I uncover anything else, but until then, I hope you all respect that I have to stay hidden for a while. Wish me luck and stay curious.

2023.04.01 10:44 Oreallyman Got dumped

This is just a rant , no need to reply just needed to get it off my chest.
I got a message from her yesterday she ran into someone from school she had a crush on and he confessed to her that even back then he had a crush on her.
She said she didn't give him his new number but he asked her coworkers and when he contacted her on phone.
She had those feelings again , she had butterflies in her stomach again for him.
She said i never expressed my love to her enough or expressed my feelings.
Im just not very good at doing that.
I was always there for me when she needed me , i thought that s my way of showing how much i care about her.
But i guess people don't see it like that.

2023.04.01 10:16 TheThirteenShadows My School's Walls Had Names

Ms Robinson had always been…eccentric. You wouldn’t notice at first; her wavy brown hair, grey eyes and radiant smile usually set people at ease when they saw her, but sooner or later her quirky nature would always give in.
“Her name is Gertrude, his name is Herbert, and would you please stop flirting with Ruby over there Samuel? You have a boyfriend.”
Seem ordinary? It does, doesn’t it? Until you realize that Gertrude’s the name of the back wall of our classroom, and Herbert is the ceiling. Ruby’s our resident leftie, if you’re wondering. Not my fault there was only one seat available that day.
Most parents would’ve killed to have her removed. Most parents are idiots. Ms Robinson was fun, energetic, and one of the best teachers I’d ever had. You’d be hard-pressed to find another teacher with such a passion for their subject as Ms Robinson, which only further cemented her abilities as a more-than-competent teacher.
Which was one of many reasons I’d always chosen to ignore the less funny facets of her teaching regimen. Such as the near-obnoxious amounts of perfume that was constantly being sprayed around the classroom. You couldn’t enter the place without at least one tear rolling down your cheeks. When I asked her what it was, she just said that the janitorial staff were testing out new cleaning products.
“And they couldn’t have done it in a classroom that wasn’t being used?” I asked, strapping my face mask on.
“Common sense isn’t as common as you might expect,” she muttered, obviously displeased. “You’d think they’d learn the first time.”
When I turned back to ask her what the hell that meant? Ninja-disappearing trick. Never gets old, until it does. And with Ms Robinson, it got old fast. Like, ‘this is the hundredth time this week!’ kind of fast. Every time I tried to ask her about the smell, or the creepy groans, she just vanished.
Oh, I didn’t mention the creepy groans? They happened when I was alone, or when the class was actually silent. Sometimes, when we were really bored and the teachers were out, we’d tell them to shut up or groan back. That usually made them quiet down.
Or, at least, they used to. Now…I’m not so sure. Now, I think I’m noticing patterns that I never knew of before. Strange patterns. I didn’t even notice it at first, until one of my friends pointed it out for me.
“Hey, you haven’t seen Annie at school lately, right?” Stephanie asked, fiddling nervously. My brows furrowed. I hadn’t, actually. Annie and I weren’t close or anything like that, but it was weird of her to skip school for two weeks straight. Even weirder was the fact that, when we checked, nobody knew what was happening.
Apparently, her parents packed up and left in the break or something. We got a new student though. Mark. Ms Robinson had Marky seated to the far back of the classroom, saying that Annie would like the company.
Sometimes I can’t believe how stupid I was. Maybe it was the fact that I’d known Ms Robinson for so long. It felt impossible to me that she might be anything other than good. I keep trying to tell myself it wasn’t my fault. I was a child, trying to survive my high school years.
But that doesn’t stop the memories. It doesn’t stop the pain, the guilt, the shame. It doesn’t stop me from curling up into a ball every time I remember it, screaming until the sounds fade away and the only thing I hear is my own pitiful sobbing.
There’s a storage room in my school that nobody goes to. People say it’s haunted or something, and that’s why everyone, even the janitors, stay far away from it. My friends thought it would be funny if I were to stay back in school.
Obviously, I wasn’t too pleased with the prospect of spending what could’ve been a productive/fun night in the Hellscape we call our second home, but the five thousand bucks they threw in helped sweeten the pot.
The plan was simple. While everyone else left the school, I’d be hanging back in the storage room until six in the morning, at which point I’d head out using my friend’s key (long story that we really don’t have time for). My parents were out of town so it would be fine.
“Careful. I heard there’s ghosts down there,” Jack joked, handing me a bottle of water before he left. I downed it in one gulp.
The storage room was surprisingly comfy, to be perfectly honest. Sure, a little cold, but nothing like I expected. Best of all was the smell, or lack thereof. After spending years being assaulted by ridiculous amounts of perfume, it was a welcome change. I plugged in my earphones and waited to fall asleep, my alarm already set for 6 AM.
It was midnight when I heard the scratching. I tried to ignore it at first. Maybe a cat or something got in? I couldn’t do anything about that, so I just tried my best to fall back to sleep. I failed, and ended up doing a few stretches when I heard something else. Something darker.
“Sam?”
Her voice was distant, and yet so close I could feel her breath on my nape.
“Annie?”
I sat there, waiting for a reply. Possibilities rolled through my mind. A prank? Possible, but unlikely. My friends had a 5-mile radius policy set as soon as school ended. Maybe they put some kind of timed recording?
I looked around the storage room. The place was spartan. Nowhere you could hide a recorder. I sighed, and turned on my phone flashlight. For a moment the light burned into my retina, and I stood against the wall, dizzy and blind.
A few moments passed, and when the spots in my vision began to clear, I felt vertigo hit me like a freight train on steroids. The room had become narrower? Or longer? I wasn’t sure, but something was wrong. I staggered forward, and the room twisted again.
I kept walking, trying my best to make sense of this strange spatial anomaly. Using my phone as a flashlight, I managed to navigate the corridors. I’d have time to wonder what the hell this was about later. Right now, I needed to find a way out.
“Samuel…”
“Sammy?”
“Sam!”
The words kept echoing in the back of my head. I screwed them shut, trying to focus. But it wasn’t working. The world kept turning and changing around me. Sometimes I saw hands crawling out of the walls. Sometimes they came from the floor. Some were skeletal, others were made of decaying flesh and blood.
What was happening?
I must’ve walked for hours. No, tens of thousands of hours. But the nightmare showed no sign of ending. Would I be trapped here forever? Would I never get to see sunlight again, or tell my parents I loved them?
I got my answer when the storage room door opened.
“Samuel?” Ms Robinson asked breathlessly. “What do you think you’re doing?”
I couldn’t answer. I just fell to the ground, too tired to say anything.
When I woke up, the doctors said I’d hallucinated. Apparently my ‘friends’ had drugged me with some kind of hallucinogen, and that’s what caused my hallucinations. I fainted because I’d spent three hours walking in the same room. I’d crashed into the wall at least twice.
The water bottle, I realized.
The rest of the school year was as normal as ever, except my parents freaked out and grounded me for life. That was years ago.
I’m 25 now, and this story had never been of particular importance to me until now. I mean, sure, it’s fun to say at parties: hey, did you know I got drugged that one time? And you thought your story about sharks was scary!
But now, now I don’t want to think about it at all. I thought those voices had been hallucinations. I was wrong. A few weeks ago, the school was being renovated for something. One of the workers apparently fainted on the spot when he saw what was behind one of the walls.
Kids. Hundreds of kids. Some were nothing more than skeletons now. Others were rotting and decayed. And you want to know the worst part? Some of them were still alive. Theirs’ were the most horrifying faces I have ever seen.
The chemicals had been the school’s way of stopping the smell and infections. Those voices? The kids, trying to cry out for help. The walls were thin enough that they could speak, but judging by the state they were in, even breathing would’ve been difficult.
The police still aren’t sure how the hell they did it. Whatever it was, it was designed so that nobody would ever figure it out. Some of the kids weren’t even from our town. All of them matched missing case reports from the last fifty years, ranging from our town all the way to…I don’t even know.
Gertrude Gilbert.
Herbert Jennings.
Annie Myers.
The police have no suspects. No leads. Ms Robinson is gone, along with the rest of the faculty. I have no idea how this hasn’t made national news yet. I’m afraid it never will. Nobody likes to admit when they’re wrong, and Ms Robinson was our greatest wrong yet.

2023.04.01 10:16 commandotaco Modafinil chest tightness

Hi all,
A month ago, I took modafinil for my sleep apnea just once at 50 mg. A few hours in, I started to have some random chest tightness that would last a few seconds or so. This would come and go sporadically throughout the day. Unfortunately, this has persisted to even this day. Nowadays, I only get it like <5 times per day. It is so strange though, I never once had this chest tightness in my life until I took modafinil. It affects both my left and right side, but a bit more on my left. In addition, my heart seemed to pound harder on basic movements, like going up the stairs quickly.
I am a 23M, moderately unhealthy lifestyle - programmer so not much movement. Lift twice a week, no cardio, ~20% body fat. Mild sleep apnea). No anxiety whatsoever.
Here are my guesses of what’s causing this based on reading a ton of Reddit anecdotes:
  1. Heartburn / GERD - the chest tightness seems to occur more often after eating. I’ve never had this issue before, so I’m not sure how this is supposed to feel like.
  2. Increased blood pressure. Maybe this explains the pounding, increased heart rate?
  3. Electrolyte imbalance? - once, I took a vitamin D + K2 5000IU supplement and I had pretty severe chest tightness after.
What do you think is most likely causing these symptoms? Maybe a combination of the above, or something else I’m missing. How do I prevent these symptoms from occurring?
Some ideas I have are to take modafinil sublingually instead, do more cardio, and maybe take magnesium.

Letters of Recommendation
Research Mentor: "To simply put, [REDACTED] is extraordinary. He is a born leader. The best student and scholar I’ve interacted with over the past two decades of my academic training and research career."
APES & Pre-AP Chem Teacher: "His singular ability to lead those around him through compassion and overcoming so many obstacles in his life has truly defined him as the best student that I have had the pleasure of teaching."
AP Bio Teacher: I genuinely don't know. I've known her for a while and I serve as a TA for her class and have spend hours and hours before and after school, but I genuinely don't know-- could be okay or good.
Counselor: I've met her like twice lol probably generic and just a copy and paste of my resume lol
Interviews
Harvard: He was a really cool former teacher who I think thought I was interesting. Our interview was a couple of hours and it was really great, BUT I didn't talk much about my ECs, really just talked about my goals and perspectives rather than my accomplishments
Princeton: He was a cool guy. We talked for a couple of hours. He seemed really, really impressed by my UN work and seemed to like me.
Yale: Cool guy. Seemed to really like me and talked about how he saw himself in me as a fellow POC. Talked for a couple of hours.
MIT: Cool guy. Really impressive. I think he thought I was great, just not a great applicant to MIT. Asked me a physics question which I got wrong. Talked for a couple of hours.
Georgetown: My interviewer was like hella impressive. Former lawyer. We connected well. He thought I would be great for GTown. Talked for a couple of hours.
Rice: Terrible. I didn't prepare and didn't have great answers. Interviewer was very STEM (I'm not) and didn't seem too interested in my activities. Cut off interview at 30 mins.
Penn: I thought it was really good lmao. I had a lot of fun and we went way over the schedule time and she thought I would be perfect lmao.
WashU (scholarship interview): Timed interview but I felt great. Interviewers were super sweet; laughed at my jokes and made me feel great :)
Brown (video interview): Low key kinda funny; did like a day in the life where I made pancakes for my brother and had a big interview
Berkeley (special program interview): I was not prepared and it was during school hours so I kinda joined 1-2 mins late. I also kinda just read out my application essay as a response for a couple of questions. They didn't seem impressed.
Emory (scholarship interview 1): I got cut off by the virtual timer each time, but I felt quite prepared I think and I think I had great responses
Emory (scholarship interview 2): Really great group interview; gave some great responses. I thought I was resourceful and the interviewers seemed to like me too :)
Emory (scholarship interview 3): Also a group interview; we created something really great and wonderful. Went out of my comfort zone but created something many thought was great. I also met with 2 of my interviewers before and after and both thought I was very articulate and thought I was insightful during the interview.
Essays
Common App Essay: (11/10) I honestly loved it lol. It was a conflict of "he" vs. "they" and I thought it was great and really showed who I was. It was also really fun and engaging to read and not too long. Everyone I spoke to LOVED it A LOT so I guess that has to mean something lol
Supps: I really liked a lot of mine and put a lot of time into them. Many of them were really funny or really deep and conveyed the duality of my personality. I will say tho, in the application process, I applied to a bunch of schools I wasn't a fan of, and, as a result, my sups were very rushed. How much I cared about the school and spent on the supp really reflected my admissions decision (except for 1)-- see parentheses below for info on this.

2023.04.01 09:47 Interfan14 Repost: Alternate reality Civil War

Note this is a repost and not my story but I found it online and thought it would be interesting to get your guys perspectives.
My Experience in a Seemingly Alternate Reality. Screenshots Provided
The concept of a parallel universe, a world similar to our own but differing slightly, perhaps possessing a subtle divergence in history, has always been a prevalent theme in literature. Several individuals have even claimed to have visited alternate realities, experiencing a slightly different, possibly darker, version of the world we know. The vast majority of these people are certainly crackpots, or cranks desiring attention. Nonetheless, a small percentage of these claims are difficult to dismiss, and lead me to significant doubt about the true nature of the world. A couple months ago, I think that I actually experienced, briefly, life in an alternate timeline. From what I can see, this subreddit might be open to stories beyond the ordinary, and I at least hope that you take the time to consider my account.
On June 28, 2014, my morning was the same as any other day. I woke up, brushed my teeth, ate breakfast, got in the car to go to work. I was confused, however, after I switched on the radio. I usually listen to music on my morning drive, but the station was playing some sort of news talk show. The host was exuberantly referencing our "victory in the Great War", as he praised troops and the armed forces. At first, I thought that he was discussing the recent end to the War in Afghanistan, as our combat troops were withdrawing at the time. I was confused, however, when he started discussing the conclusion of our "victory in Italy", and how the "second Great Depression will come to an end as our victory is secured". I assumed that this was some strange sci-fi or fictional program, and largely forgot about it. At my lunch break at work, however, I overheard my office co-workers talking about our "victory in Italy" and how "unity" will be preserved. For some reason, they kept mentioning the numbers 33-13. I asked them what the hell they were discussing, but they told me that my ignorance was "disrespectful towards the troops". It was then that I noticed that one of my fellow co-workers, Sam, was not present; when I asked if he was sick, nobody knew who he was. Strange.
On the way home, I took a different route (through the city) to avoid traffic. Numerous "victory" banners were hanging on the walls of buildings, showing images of American marines braving some foreign beach. I couldn't help noticing that the city looked far poorer than I remembered, and many buildings were abandoned and crumbling. In my apartment, I turned on CNN, just to understand what was going on. The hosts discussed how "Italian logistical targets were decisively defeated with little civilian casualty" and that the "insurgency in Greece and Ireland is drawing down with every passing day". The experience was so unexpected, so bizarre, that I can still remember the words of the newscasters vividly.
I decided to peruse Wikipedia, as I knew that the site would at least give an overview of the "war". As I read the page, I grew increasingly confused and bewildered. The Greek debt crisis had exponentially increased in intensity; there was a string of defaults across Europe, and the Eurozone collapsed into civil war. The United States was in a worse depression than the 1930s, as global finance collapsed, and the war bankrupted our economy further. Ireland and Greece were occupied by "coalition" forces, and there was a violent nationalist insurgency in both countries. I decided that I must be dreaming; to test whether this was really happening, I took screenshots of the pages on my phone. Sure enough, after I woke up, the pictures were still there:
http://m.imgur.com/a/8mzIh
After this experience, I examined the possibility of parallel universes. According to the many-worlds interpretation of quantum mechanics, each event leads to a divergence of timelines, with a different outcome corresponding to a different reality. It seems that somehow, somewhere, our universe diverged, and a different, darker timeline formed.

2023.04.01 09:43 Ill_Fill8457 P0244 after new (remanufactured) turbo install

Hi Guys,
Recently I discovered my turbo was leaking which according to my mechanic warranted a new turbo install. I found the correct one on Ebay, remanufactured with 2 years warranty, which after receiving was bench tested and given a green light for installation. After the installation however the car developed a high-pitched squeal after 3k RPM, and a P0244 Turbocharger-Supercharger Wastegate Solenoid A Range-Performance code appeared. My mechanic switched out the wastegate solenoid from my old turbo which was known to work fine and the noise disappeared, and the car runs great for a brief period of time until the code shows up again. Nobody has an idea what to do. Can you give me some pointers?
The car is a Euro-spec 2017 Giulia Veloce/Ti 2.0T 280hp under 60k miles.
